I have a german shepard/rottweiler mix who is stubborn as can be. I have been taking him to a personal trainer but sometimes he doesn't listen to me when I say no. How can I get him to stop doing what he's doing?

A loud noise at the same time you say no typically works well.
Pennies in a can, clapping your hands or two pieces of wood together.
I've also heard of people using "Time out" for dogs.. like putting them in a special pen that's for "time out" only. But they only go in when they are bad. I've never tried this one- but I've been told it works. People say that by the fourth time in the pen, they have it figured out.

Whatever you do, don't use physical methods of discipline (hitting, etc). Have you asked the trainer about this? Puppies can be very stubborn, and a good trainer should be able to give you advise on handling this. If he's doing something you don't want him to do, move him away from what he's doing when you tell him no. Do positive reinforcement when he's being good. Even when he's just laying down or playing with an approved toy...tell him he's a good boy, or give him a treat. When he's being naughty (assuming it's something like jumping, nosing you for attention, etc) ignore him or you'll be giving him the attention he's after. These are just a few things I've heard...you should really ask the trainer for tips.

A loud "Aaaaaaak" sound will get their attention (and eye contact), then say "NO". If that doesn't work, take two pennies in an empty pop can and rattle it to get their attention, then say "NO". It worked wonders with my unruly lil yellow lab. Never hit a dog, it does not teach them anything but to be mean.
