The way it goes Dr. Ed (& please give credit to Stephen S. Wright, the comic who wrote it):
"I have a friend who has this message on his cell phone, 'I'm in now, but I call you back when I'm out'"!
The way you tell it people think it's a riddle not a joke.

He's trying to use up his cell phone minutes because they don't roll over to the next month, perhaps. I thought most companies fixed that problem. Maybe he spends most of his time making service calls and usually calls people outside of his house. But if you wanted a lighter reply - maybe he will be "out of excuses" not to call, so he really will call!
