my daughter is four. I already have my mind made up as to what I will do. I just want to see what others have to say.

I was listening to the radio and they asked this question. I live in the south, were the majority believe that beating the fear of God into your children will keep them from having sex. How naive (sp) of them!

I am no where near stupid honey. I am not asking the question for my daughter per say, not at this time. Just a general question to get people thinking.

Yes I would and yes I have. I firmly believe in being honest with children and giving them the facts. My daughter is sixteen years old and we have had many very open and frank discussions about sex, morality, and protecting yourself against STD's and unwanted pregnancies. I have told her that she can go on birth control when she feels she's ready. My theory is that if you are honest and open about sex with children that you cut down on the curiosity factor and misinformation from peers.

yes i would, for a coupl ereasons. 1. if she was having a difficult menstrual cycle. i would put her on it to help regulate it, and 2.if she bacame a sexually active teen, i would not want her to go thru a teen pregnancy. i was 22 when i had my son and 24 when i had my daughter, so i may have a long way to go, but i have thought about it. my son is 3 and my daughter is 1. and if i can help prevent teen pregnancy, (so help me god). i will help in the prevention .just think about this , when i was sixteen, my liitle cousin was 11 and and she was pregnant . and my aunt(her mom), had been warning my mother about me. i was 16, i had no business having a baby i just had my fun. so ages vary. (note: the sex was with consent, my little cousin had some issues so now , she's 18 with an 8year old and another on the way.) teenagers are crazy!!

I'm 19 and I went on birth control when I was 16. I wasn't sexually active when I got my pills and my mom knew this....I only got them to help regulate my periods. In order for me to get the pills i had to begin my yearly gyno appointments. I think that putting your child on birth control at a certain age (varies for each child. judge ur child, not someone else's or even your older daughter, if u had one). I have a friend who got birth controls from Planned Parenthood and never told her parents. Personally, when I have a daughter I want to have an open relationship so that I can be sure my daughter is safe.

Yes, being on the pill is not going to encourage promiscuity. You and your daughter will hopefully have been having lots of discussions about sex and when you're ready for it, relationships, etc., so putting her on the pill is in my mind the responsible thing to do. Teenagers are not always in control of their hormones and things happen. Protection is a better idea than the trauma of an unwanted pregnancy.

If I had a daughter I definitely would put her on birth control when she hit puberty. It's better to be safe than sorry. No matter how much we would like to make believe our kids aren't sexual beings, the fact is, is that they are. As it is I have a teenage son and make condoms available to him as well as a lot of information. He's yet to make use of them, as he's not been sexually active yet, but he knows they are there and that they are necessary. I would also make sure she knew about the need for condoms as well considering the prevalence of STDs. :)

I asked my mom for birth control myself when I was 15, but she started talking to me about it years before that. She always told me that If I want to have sex in the future, I can but I have to use protection and that she will put me on birth control, buy me condoms, etc.
Yes, I would. It's better than letting them have unprotected sex and get pregnant, or get an STD.
Either way, nobody can stop teens from having sex.

I would. I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding B.C. pills and the thinking now is that the message that will be sent is to go out and be promiscuous and have intercourse....but honestly, I think that teenagers now are going to do what they want regardless so why not let them be safe? Plus, as a teenage girl, menstrual cycles can be really strange and unpredictable and the B.C. pills will help mellow them out.

I do not have kids, but if I had, I would talk to them and take them to a doctor so that the doctor can explain all options before they consider having sex.
I would rather encourage responsibility and pay for birth control, than pay for an abortion or help raise a child.

I went on the pill at 16 to help relieve cramps, but my mom and I had a discussion first about it not being a good form of protection against std's, have open discussions with your daughter about what it is and isn't for.

You can bury your head in the sand and say that kids do not have sex and there are no STDs out there or you can be a responsible parent like yourself and keep your kids as safe as you can. Congratulations and good luck (teenage girls can be hell to live with having all those raging hormones)
