We used the RSPCA to insure our two kittens, it costs around £6 per month each. This is the Gold policy, which means they are covered for absolutely everything.
The best thing with this policy is that 20% of your policy is donated to the RSPCA, so you are helping other animals in need.
You have to be very careful of some policys as they will only cover you for treatment over a certain period of time. For example if your cat became diabetic, most policys would pay for treatment for the first year or two and after that you are on your own.
I guess the main point is always read the small print.

If your cat was from a shelter like mine you can get sheltercare for $1 for the first month which includes all emergencies, accidents, antibiotics, URI, euthansia and more! after the first month i believe its $5 and then after that $11 or you can change plans as needed...they even have a plan that offers "tenant" coverage incase the cat destroys the carpet or something

I had pet insurance, but could not find a vet that would take it. None of them took any kind of pet insurance. I was still going to have to pay for everything out of pocket, and wait for the insurance company to reimburse me. Make sure your vet is going to take the policy.

I would agree with booty that Marks and Spencer are by far the best. My dog is insured with them for life with no excess to pay and it was over £5 a month cheaper than Pet Plan who I was originally with.

I have just joined petplan for my puppy and my kitten. it costs me about 18 pounds a month but it pays the vet direct instead of you having to pay it and claim your money back. Put it this way, my cat had to have a c-section recently with the PDSA and it would've cost me 300 pounds at a normal vets. pet insurance is VERY important to me.

I'm with Direct Line as well, it was by far the best quote for my 2 dogs £27 per month, they are both GSD's so could get hip/joint probs, so I was really pleased with this one!
