Hello Phily !
If you are looking for unskilled agricultural job, You need H-2A.
If you are looking for non-agricultural job, You need H-2B
You might not qualified for H-1A, or H-1B.
First, Your employer in US has to show that they cannot find employees who can do the job in the state. Than they have to file a petition with SWA.(Form ETA 750) , and USCIS (Form I-129) There are 66,000 limit per year. You can only stay here less than 1 year.
There are permanent labor certification, but it's very difficult to get, and there are backlog.

Good luck 1 ! I hope you make it here in US.

A supporting letter will not work. The US employer needs to file a petition for you, with an approved labor certification. When the petition is approved, you can apply for the visa.
