Theism and Atheism are both beliefs - neither one is provable.
Without god, Theism ceases to exist... and Atheism also ceases to exist.
Think of it in terms of Santa Claus.
If you believe in him, you're Clausist.
If you don't believe in him your Aclausist.
... and without Santa Claus, neither one would exist.
IMHO, the only honest answer is "I don't know" (agnostic).

I disagree. It is the lack of belief in a god or a higher power. I know there are a lot of atheists on this site who attack Christians and then complain about Christians trying to share the Word of the Lord with them. There are also a lot of atheists who choose not to believe in the Lord, but allow others to believe - and accept that everyone has the right to choose. Atheists are not all the same just as Christians are not all the same.

No.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, atheism is "a disbelief in the existence of deity"
The American Heritage Dictionary says atheism is the "disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods."
Atheism is a disbelief, not a belief. Without the IDEA of god it ceases to exist.

Without some portion of society believing in a god the "DEFINITION" of an atheist ceases to exist, because in that case everyone is an atheist.

I see a lot of people taking pokes like this at atheists and then turning around and saying they are the negative ones here bashing religion. Sometimes the atmosphere here is not what my idea of loving Christian behavior is supposed to be about, then it seldom it. Why so threatened by people who view the world differently if you are secure in your faith?

Atheists don't believe the CONCEPT of god.
They believe that god exists in the minds of others as an irrational thought.
There would be no need for anyone to label themselves as atheist if some else had not voiced their image of a creator being.
Because you choose not to believe in my concept of chaos, it neither proves or disproves chaos as a concept...

My opinion is that when someone says that they are an atheist, they do not worship anything or anyone. The bottom line here is that they see no higher power beyond this earth or universe. The atheists are not spiritual people; they think that once they die, that's it....end of story. It is my understanding that if someone is an atheist, they had or have real issues with their parents and don't feel loved.

Not really. I could say as a positive Science proves our existance. The religious negative would be 'no it doesn't, an invisible being does.' Its only a point of view just like yours.

Do you believe in fairies? If you don't, you must be a negative, like a parasite or a leech that must attach yourself to a positive... a counterpart of "fairies". Without fairies your non belief in fairies ceases to exist, therefore fairies exist.
