Whey protein is a very good form of protein and it is fast absorbing. Ideally, you should include different sources of protein to provide different amino acids to the body.
Whey protein is best taken right after the workout when the body needs it most to repair the muscles. Of course you can consume it on non workout days too, but remeber any extra food - be it protein, carbs or fat will be stored as fat.
If you are keeping your diet exactly the same and you are just adding the protein shake, I doubt you will lose any weight. If you drink it twice a day, you should at least reduce your other food intake by 240 cals.
Losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time is difficult (but not impossible). I would suggest you concentrate on one first. If your are an endomorph (one who can put on both fat and muscle very fast, but has trouble losing fat) you should probably concentrate on losing the extra fat first. On the otherhand if you are an ectomorph who doesn't become fat but is a hardgainer, you should be on a calorie surplus diet till you achieve your target muscle development. Then you can go on a calorie reduced phase to lose the fat

Whey protein is a denatured or broken down protein. The reason this protein supplement is so popular is because the protein is already broken down, your body can absorb it much quicker. I and other weight lifters like this because it means that you know you can give your muscles protein right when they need it. Whey is intended to be consumed 30 minutes before or after working out, it doesn't have the same effects further out than that. So it's a good protein supplement to get your body the nutrients it needs for repair right when it needs them. It's basically the same protein found in foods, just broken down. Other protein shakes are good too, they just take longer for your body to brake them down and use them. If you are looking to lose body fat and gain muscle you need to be really careful about your caloric intake. Protein shakes can help you get the protein needed for building muscle but can help you restric calories but you have to pay attention to the labels on the protein shakes and mixes. It can cause body fat gain if you are consuming too many calories a day. So make sure your protein sources are lean. (don't eat fatty meats and dairy products for protein sources). It can be VERY difficult to gain muscle mass and lose body fat at the same time so make sure you pay attention to protein and calories in what you eat (use the internet to help you) -Connor

u wont gain weight just by adding protein. u need to consume more cals than u burn in a day.that extra protein in the whey shake will help ur muscles recover from the workout so u can keep training. just focus more on cardio and circuit training and eating healthy clean whole foods. and stop taking the gnc crap. dont ever shop there. try optimum nutrition or designer whey and but it at a local health food store or online at bulk nutrition.com or bodybuilding.com. its a lot cheaper and better quality

If you are trying to lose, I would go for the whey only once a day, along with a reduction in carbs. You must keep exercising though...

No Whey. Don't drink that! It'll make you gain weight. Just work out and you'll loose fat and gain muscle.
Just drink a lot of water. That'll keep you hydrated and keep you from being hungry as often.

Go for it, your doing the right thing. If youdo not add protien to your diet, and you have decreased your calorie input, then you will burn fat and not decrease your muscle size. 88% is good for dieting, 100% is mostly what body builders use.
