Sure, I've done it. More than once I realized that a woman who I deeply cared about was no good for me, and that I was too into her to just be friends. Leaving, at least temporarily, was the only acceptable solution. Note that this doesn't mean that the woman was no good, only that she was no good _for me_.

The same would also apply if I was no good for her, and I've been there a couple of times, too.
