We have been dating 6 weeks....I asked him to go to dinner with my parents so they could meet this guy I have been talking about. He said he wasnt sure, that it might be too early, he said it would be fine because everything I said about them thus far was nice, he was just a little hesistant. I told him it was okay, not a big deal, didnt want to rush it or make him feel uncomfortable. We havent talked since the conversation, which has only been a day, but do I just assume he is scared and taking a step back, or do I just drop it and move on from the topic? I really like him. We have plans for this sunday and next friday.

That's quite a daunting prospect for anyone.

I think he's scared to meet your parents because of many things such as he's afraid that he won't come off as great and mighty as you made him to sound (that's probably the exact way he thinks in his head), that it is too early since (I think so too), maybe he's shy around parents (I painfully am resulting in an endless amount of them hating me), etc.

Just give it some time and try to move on for now. Bring it up after you two are really serious, maybe after you two have been going out for 6 months-1 year.

I was kind of in the same dilemma. The guy I'm dating wants me to meet his parents since not even a week since we've been dating. It's only been a month now and I'm still scared of meeting his mom because I don't know what to say to her, I'm afraid she might think that I'm a bad choice for his son, I'm not good enough, I'm not pretty enough, etc. I don't know her or how she thinks but I'm still terrified...

Yes definetly drop it and move on to a different conversation. And don't tell your parents you invited him and he was hesitant either. You should wait a little longer and invite him to something less formal then a dinner. Maybe a movie or an amusement park where your parents are going. Dinner can be intimidating. Try and think of something less nerve racking.

If you lived at home, he would meet your parents when coming to your home to pick you up, which is a more natural situation.

To schedule a dinner meeting, may seem more formal to him.
It might also send a message that you are more serious, when he simply enjoys dating.

Wait a while.......................3 to 6 months. If he is talking engagement then I would want him to meet the family.

ask him why he feels hesitant about meeting your folks. See why he is so stand offish.Might be from a bad past issue.Make him feel at ease and relaxed and then see what he says when you ask him.If he does not want to meet your parents might be a sign of how he truely views this relationship.

I would take any guy to see mine ONLY if he wanted to not otherwise and some have offered willingly this isnt something we girls ask the guy they just offer themselves that shows they are ready for commitment or else who wants to pressurise it
