Yes I understand your argument, it is more trouble than it's worth, we will have to reateach all those kids and replace textbooks. Among other things. However, on the flipside of the arguement I understand why they didd it. here are my thoughts.
Actually a there was another one they were calling Xena that they discovered three years ago and they had been considering weather or not to make it a planet because it is bigger than pluto but in tyhe end it became a dwarf planet like pluto, also, apparently a couple months ago they discovered two new moons on Pluto, very minor compaired to its other moon. Also, considering that its main moon is like 2/3 its size that would have qualified it more as half of a double planet than a moon. Now Pluto is considered part of the kuplar belt I believe. that was amessage I just sent to my friend but it is relevent here.

Grandfather rule means nothing.
The world is flat, by that rule. Times change - technology changes. We learn new things all the time.
Pluto does not orbit the sun in the unhindered elliptical pattern, and is not of sufficient size. It's a dwarf planet. There's no sense in having to update the textbooks to accomodate the 50+ other "planets" that are bigger than Pluto we will discover in the Keiper belt.
Think of it this way. The CO2 produced is helping us people living in colder climates enjoy nature the way that the tropics intended. Going to air-conditioned schools, with new textbooks, learning about our 8-planet solar system, and dreaming of visiting Disney World to see the midget in the Pluto costume.

When I heard of this decision, I couldn't honestly believe that 2,500 people could be that stupid as to believe that science could be swayed by politics and fashion like that. It's as if all of Clyde Tombaugh's work, back in 1930, was in vain, and I don't like the idea that a man's life achievement can suddenly count for nothing.
It would be like someone deciding that phlogiston was, in fact, a very good idea, it should never have been discredited, and now millions of dollars should be spent to promote phlogiston chemistry and to add phlogiston theory to science textbooks in schools.
Someone explain to me how it is that, if the Prague Rule now states that Pluto can no longer be called a planet because its orbital path intersects with another body, why the Earth should retain its status as a planet? After all, its orbit intersects with that of the Moon, twice a lunation.
I'd feel that the solar system has been diminished, somehow, except for one thing. It isn't as if Pluto's just up and vanished.
The /planet/ is still out there.

I am in full agreement. Furthermore, this move by an international un-elected cabal is yet another act of anti-American resentment. Consider if you will:
* An American set up the facility to search for Pluto
* An American discovered Pluto
* An American discovered Charon
* An American team discovered Nix and Hydra using American equipment launch by Americans from an American space shuttle
* An American probe is being sent to study Pluto
No other nation on Earth has done more for Pluto than the United States. To relegate it to "dwarf planet" status is a slap in the face to 300 million Americans, most of which have spent a lifetime knowing that Pluto is indeed a true planet. To have this body of "experts" dismissing the contributions of Americans to the solar system is a disgrace.
I propose that all pro-Planet Pluto Americans write their representatives and President Bush to push for full planetary recognision of Pluto, regardless of what this oligarchy in Czechia says. We should not rest until this insult to the American way of space exploration is rectified.

It is a vast big business conspiracy.In conjunction with 'big textbook",N.A.S.A and the right-wing administration,they are out to reclassify planets in order to rewrite,and therefore charge exuberant fees for rewritten books. Instead of just retaining a few teachers during summer break(which teachers unions wouldn't allow anyway) to sit around and simply use correction fluid to white out the word Pluto,the whole damned book will have to be rewritten.

Ehhh...I heard that TPFKAP (The Planet Formerly Known As Pluto) has purchased a semiautomatic rifle, and is plotting during the mandatory three-day wait. Pluto is planning to target the 284 astronomers that voted to 'demote' it while at a dorky astronomer 'planet party'.

Originally pluto was minnies dog, rover. But as the TV series went on (back in the 30's, I believe) he slowly switched over to being mickeys dog, pluto.
