Valve caps do NOT keep air in your tires...they prevent dirt from getting into the valve just below them. If the valves are still good, you will not lose air. It is a good idea to have caps on the valve stems to keep the valves clean.

The caps are there to make it that more difficult to access the valve stem and release air. They really were never designed to seal the air in the tire. They are there to keep debris out of the valve stem which could cause air to be released.

You won't lose air unless the valve stem core is leaking. Put some soapy water right on the end of the valve stem and see if it bubbles. If it does you have air leaking out. You can buy a valve core tool at the auto parts store and try tightening the core.

Valve caps don't keep the air in; the valve itself does. The caps are just there to keep grit out of the valves, which will cause them to stick open.

Not having the caps doesn't matter. You have to push in that little rod in the middle of the valve to get air to come out.

The valve caps have nothing to do with losing air.

Dust caps are there to stop muck and dust getting into the valve, not to stop air coming out. Go to a scrap yard if it's a cash issue.

Valve caps are purely to keep the valves clean, they do not prevent air loss.

I'd say roughly 5 to 10 years depending on how the weather conditions are.By not having them you are leaving the valves open to weather conditons and they may get stuck when you go to put air in though.
