I got a book for Christmas, that I have never opened, read, in fact touched it until this morning. I don't think I will ever use it. I am invited to a party this weekend and I think this book would fit her personality and lifestyle.

Would it be okay to give her this book as a gift?
Or..
Should I just go buy something else since I this book was given to me as a gift?

As long as "she" isn't the person who gave it to you, it's better to give it to someone who will appreciate it than let it molder on your shelf.

There is nothing wrong with "regifting". If the gift is better suited for someone else and it's still in brand new condition...give it to her. Why not include a pretty book mark or $10 gift certificate to Starbuck's too? That way, you have given a little something as well.

If you really think the person would enjoy the book, it would be a fine gift. It might be a little awkward if you see the person who gave the book to you. However, it's been a good long while. Maybe he/she would not even remember giving it to you. I say give the book. You don't need it cluttering up your place any longer.

Regifting is bad etiquette if you are passing it off as something you chose and bought yourself. It is okay to pass on a gift to someone but not in lieu of buying or making something else. If finances are low give her the gift, just also give her something like her favorite flower, a pretty candle, etc....not just the regift alone.

Regifting is a common practice among many people. However, better safe than sorry. If I were you I would just re buy the book for your friend. And- hey who knows? You may enjoy the book if you start to read it! Good Luck!

Re-gifting it perfectly acceptable in this case.
Unless the person who gave you the book in the first place would be there, I dont see any problem with it.

Gift-regiving is totally acceptable. Even if the person is there, I think it is okay. If they say anything, tell them you are passing the gift on for someone else to appreciate. You could even tell them in the thank-you card.

I love books and I would appreciate a book regifted.

Re-give it but tell a little white lie - "Someone gave this book to me and I thought it would be perfect for you, so I got you your own copy."

That way, if the original giver finds out, you're covered.
