Yes, the Bible is good. If people who professed Christianity really lived what the Bible teaches then I'm pretty sure you'd have nothing to complain about. The Bible tell us to love one another, be kind, compassionate, forgive, be longsuffering, not to envy, be jealous, etc.
It's people who take the Word of God and distort it for their own personal gain that I think you're looking at. Don't blame God for problems that are caused by people. As far as the stories...let's start with Adam and Eve...this world is entirely too perfect to have just "happened". We were created. Even Darwin took back this theory before his death. We don't evolve into better beings. If anything we digress becoming more selfish. This generation in the United States is the most selfish and rebellious we've ever had...just go ask any public school teacher. What other story do you wanna talk about. How about the ones of Jesus healing all those people. Uh, I guess you say it never happened. Well, I've seen it happen to people I know personally so I'm going by faith. If it's in the Bible then it's there for a reason. A story is more than just a story when it's in the Bible. And I'm sick of people calling me names because I'm a Christian. I've never called anyone else a name. I hope people can grow up! If you expect tolerance for your atheist lifestyle then maybe you should tolerate others!
Ok...I'm getting off my soapbox

Don't know who Dan Brown is, sorry. But, I have read the Bible and I think it is "good," if by good you mean something that can help bring about good. For example, in its original languages (untarnished by translation) it records the Abrahamic origin of the 3 major monotheistic belief systems, Islam, Judaism and Christianity, which should be a starting point for peace (they all have the same father). The rubbish taught by the church (not sure which church you mean, but will guess either Catholicism or one of it's relations) is not what the Bible teaches. They just twist its contents in order to dominate the masses. That's bad.

Dan Brown's book has been proven to be full of errors. Historically, there isn't a shred of evidence to support anything that he claims. I know that it is a fiction novel (I am reminded of this all the time), but the incredible thing is that Dan Brown actually believes the "facts" he presents in his book to be true. Even though his own "facts" contradict themselves, he still believes them.
Jesus never married Mary Magdela, there's no proof of that anywhere. The Catholic Church does not hate her; she is actually sainted - St. Mary Magdela. Kind of a funny way to hate her by exalting her to sainthood, don't you think?
His book amounts to using fiction to disguise false beliefs and present this to the public. If he had written these same beliefs as a non-fiction book, scholars and historians worldwide would have laughed it off the bookshelves.

The Bible... is a collection of scripture inspired by the worshippers of GOD for thousands of years! No other book or collection of writings have this kind of history! ...is it Good? The very word good is from the same root as GOD! Dan Brown is a good story teller! the movies do make it more understandible, but that's all! That Mr Brown was lucky enough to get his story portrayed by Movie makers does not excuse him for telling a lie!

Personally?
The problem is you are not the one who makes truth - God is God and you are not. Nor am I.
There can only be one truth - not one for each person. This is the folly of man that he can believes he can manipulate truth to his comfort or taste. Even Dan Brown has prefaced the book saying it is a work of fiction - but still 13% of readers think it is true.
The church teaches the inspired word of God. When a person agrees in faith, then he is agreeing with the truth of God in unity with other believers.
My guess is you do not visit Bible believing churches often, or have not opened your heart when God has shown himself to you.
Read "The Purpose-Driven LIfe" by Rick Warren, clear meaningful writing on the meaning of life.
Thanks...

Dan Brown's story seems more believeable to today's generation becuase it was written in today's generation--the Bible was written thousands of years ago, and most of the stories in the Bible are "unbelievable" because noone in our generation has personally seen anything like it. However, people refer to the Bible as a guidebook to life for a reason--have you ever heard someone say that about the DaVinci Code?

The bible was written over centuries by hundreds of different men telling different stories to back their agendas. It was then 'edited' as to which books would be included. You tell me why the bible is self-contradictory and fragmentary.
Of course Dan Brown is going to be easier to read. One person, one story with the agenda of making a saleable novel.

Well, if you're getting into stories, there are some pretty darn good ones in the Bible. I like the Murder By Tent Peg and Murder With Exploding Poo stories from the book of Judges, personally.
I am not making this up.
ETA:
Exploding Poo Murder: Judges 3:11-25
Tent Peg To The Head: Judges 4:16-24

I wouldn't say that the DaVinci Code sticks closely to truth for the most part... but yes, it is much more historically/scientifically accurate than the Bible.
Of course this is a bad comparison since the two are completely different types of literature.
If people weren't so duped by religion nobody would read the bible. It's one of the dullest most nonsensical books ever written.
