That's a little over simplified, but there are people who believe that a person can will his own death, under the right circumstances.

It's pretty widely believed that the human mind is so powerful, it can trigger things without us being very conscious of it. Psychosomatic illnesses are an example of this - when you experience symptoms that are not the result of a physical problem in your body, but rather your mind being convinced something's wrong. I've heard it said that a person who is extremely depressed or some other extreme negative state can actually will their own death - give up on life and let their body expire. I couldn't say for sure just how true it is.

I don't think that just anyone can do this but let's say an old person has been sick for a long time they can give up and die soon after or when their loved one says go, then they let go. Sometimes when a man and wife has been married for a long time and one dies then the other gives up and dies shortly after.

That happened to my uncle. He thought he had gas, so he asked my aunt for an Alka Seltzer. She said she didn't have any, so he said, "well, I guess I'll just go lie down in my room and die, then." He was joking of course, and my aunt just laughed it off not thinking anything of it. The next morning, their oldest grandchild found him lying in his bed dead. I think it was a heart attack, or had something to do with an artery or vein bursting or being dangerously clogged. He was in his 50s.

Someone who's healthy? Or, someone who's already on their death bed?

I don't think it's possible for someone who's healthy. But it is possible for someone who's already extremely sick.

My great grandfather was extremely sick and was admitted to the hospital. He held on this his life until my mother went to visit him. My mom drove the 6 hours to go see him and he died later on that day after he was able to say good-bye.

I've seen and heard of stories like this quite often.

In a way, old people can do that. I have seen them just kind of throw in the towel. Animals can do it too. If you are ailing, I think you have to want to live in order to survive your ailment, be it cancer, old age or whatever. Do I think people can just hold their breath until they are dead? no, and stuff like that is closer to suicide than natural death.

Never heard of this one. I think you've read a few too many Stephen King novels.

Thoughts can't kill. Only actions can.
