I'm sorry, I don't know much about the bible, but its hard for me to believe this is true.
"The Great Flood was the first time in the earth's history that it ever rained and although God promised He would never destroy the earth with another flood, He did not stop the rain cycle."
Is this true? Does this make any sense?

It's hard to comprehend because I don't think that water was stationary before a 40 day flood. It evaporates, condenses and falls back to the ground. It's the water cycle, and if water has been here before that flood, then it was part of the water cycle, therefore it rained.

Yes, what I wrote is true (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlQ2JsCLm9ufC240pk25EWPsy6IX?qid=20060825062241AAaE4T3).
Read Genesis 2:5b - 6:
"For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; 6 but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground."

The Great Flood was the first time the Earth was destroyed, due to the sinfullness in the world. God promised to never Destroy the earth again with water, but He did not stop the rain cycle, in my opinion, b/c nothing would grow and flourish. It would all dry up like desert and no-one could live here. God also promised ,I do believe that the next time the earth is destroyed it would be by fire.Look at it this way, He promised not to destroy the earth with water, but He did not promise it would never rain again... Hope this was some help..

It does not make any sense to what we understand today. But consider if there was no rain, then how would the plants grow? Water from the earth touched the roots so they could grow, and people used lakes and rivers, etc. for water. Now, with the ground saturated enough with water from beneath that when water comes from above, it can't absorb any more water (think eastern north carolina flash floods...some of you know what I'm talking about), so it pools up into a big flood. Can you imagine how horrifying it would be to have never seen rain, and all of a sudden water is coming out of the sky and doesn't stop? Anyways, the rest of the story with Noah and the ark, etc. applies, and then after, God puts the rainbow in the sky and promises not to flood the entire earth again. However, he did let it rain occasionally to remind people that he could flood it again if he wanted to, but he kept his promise, as we see in the rainbow that is in the sky after it rains. Entirely possible, but maybe this will help make more sense of it.

Yes, what is so hard about this, before the flood God watered the earth as it needed it, just like He does today. After the flood, the next time God destroys this earth it will be with fire and brimstone. I know people try to explain the warming of the earth today by mean different efforts, but read Revelation it tells all about it. The Bible is being Fulfilled everyday

Yes it is true. In the Bible it says that he will give you a sign that he will never flood the earth again (the rainbow). When the esrth is destroyed it will be of fire. He didn't say it would not ever rain again. We need water to replinsh what the sun takes away.

Just because the rain cycle didn't stop doesn't mean the promise was empty.Could you suggest another way for us to get water if there were no rivers, streams etc which is created and maintained by this cycle?

No, and No.
Rain happens because water gets evaporated into the atmosphere , travels as clouds of vapor, is condensed and falls back to earth.
God doesn't make it rain.

It says in the Genesis 6 that the windows of heaven opened up and rain poured down. Now, we don't really believe that part of the story do we?

Yes it does. It was dew that watered the earth. Hebrews 11:7- Says Noah being warned of God of things not seen yet, moved with fear. The thing not seen yet was rain.

Yes it is true as far as we know it . Before that in the garden of Eden it speaks of God making mist rise from the ground to water the plants . God can do anything , why can't you see that , you are thinking on what's humanly possible not what's possible for God .
