I think that for the most part you should dress a little more on the professional level. This will send a signal to the children that you are in control which gives them a feeling of security in what you are teaching.
I see where you are going with the T-shirt and Jeans. You want to the kids to be comfortable and on a friend level with you, and perhaps you are thinking they might confide in you and see you as approachable if you dress casual, but children need guidance and someone to look up to.
Perhaps, as a compromise, you could have casual Fridays, where you wear your jeans, that way the kids can see both sides of your role as a director. One where you condone respect and show leadership and the other as an approachable friend to the kids.
Good Luck with your new job.

If you're the director, I would say that you should be dressing a little more professional. Perhaps khaki pants and a nice shirt. Congratulations on the new position!

Try wearing Khaki's or other pants -- they can still be somewhat casual and cotton (and washable!), but they overcome the automatic "very casual" that is tied to jeans.

You are correct......you should update your look. Try dressier twill slacks.....they are ususally easy care and come in basic colors. Pair it with the layer look.....shirt and light sweater or blazer. Pick up a magazine or two for some ideas.......Good Luck and Congratulations.

I think it's perfectly fine. Be comfortable. Why the need to be so formal?

ummm, mix casual with formal: make them meet halfway through. How about a jacket with a plain blouse and jeans? dunno, i don't have fashion sense
