I was actually at my doctor yesterday to discuss several issues, including my cholesterol numbers increasing. She would have liked me to begin taking lovastatin, but I really wanted to try something else first. So, this is what she has me doing for the next 6 months and then we'll check the numbers again: take 2 fish oil tabs in the morning and 2 at night, take a product called Cholestoff that she recommended getting at SAM'S Club, eat a diet higher in fiber and lower in protein, exercise with both weights and cardio exercises (she says "weight-bearing" exercises build up muscles and burn fat more efficiently - walking, jumping rope, and running vs. bike riding and swimming) and loose weight. It's a tall order and I am dealing with pain from a meniscal tear in my knee so exercise is difficult. I have a very strong family history of high cholesterol so I know that eventually I will need to take meds to keep the cholesterol levels in check, but I'd like to delay that as long as possible.

I just found out I have high cholesterol- exercise is the best thing apparently (30 mins a day rec.). Also anything that's good for you... fruits vegetables - think of everything bad you like and that's what to avoid. Avacados and nuts are good to eat too. The actimal drink thingys were also recommended by my doctor.

Your liver produces 80% of your cholesterol, the other 20% is eaten so just cutting down on it is not very effective.
Excercise will help reduce the bad (LDL) and increase the good (HDL).
Improving diet will help as will reducing alcohol intake.

Supplements like Krill oil (rich source of Omega 3) are particularly effective at reducing LDL and increasing HDL - also good for joints, depression and kids with ADH.

Diet,Exercise and lifestyle choices, are the first choice to reduce your Cholesterol.

Decrease saturated fats, fried food, junk food and proccessed food, and increase poly unsaturated fats such as olive oil,use olive oil in cooking instead of vegetable oils.Avoid sugar, white bread and pastas..and use the whole grain foods instead such as brown bread, brown rice and whole grain foods.Increase vegetables in your diet, you should have a cup of vegetables either steamed, baked or boiled but not fried with each meal.Fresh fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds and lean proteins should make up the remainder of your diet.
Exercise is also essential, begin a gentle walking program morning and evening and then increase the distance or speed as ur fitness level increases.Drink plenty of water...Do this for 6 months, and have ur cholesterol levels checked...if it hasent improved you may consider medication or alternative treatment.

I have recently bought a product called Dry Shampoo by Lee Stafford, loads of different people do them and its really good. If my hairs a big greasy in the morning and dont have time to wash it then i just spray a big of that on my hair and it does the trick. Hairspray is just going to make your hair more greasy as your adding more products to it that tend to make it greasier quicker. Hope this helps

Lifestyle & genes: You can't change the genes (yet) so work on the lifestyle.

=> Vigorous aerobic exercise for 30 minutes, 3 times each week
=> Dietary considerations: Low fat, no saturated fats, high fiber, moderate alcohol consumption
=> Visit doctor for blood tests, develop a plan specific to your needs and genes

Keep a reusable water bottle with your desk to sip often. Remaining hydrated can satiate hunger along with cravings, reduce bloating, and hold you more alert.
