this is because there is much more variety of all kinds of food including unhealthy fatty food and becasue of long work hours so there is less time for physical activity and exercise americans(i am one) need to change how they think and what they do they feel they are fat because of genetics but it is an excuse to not do any thang about it it also has to do with the fact that there is so muchto do that doesnt use alot of energy or physical activity such as the computer and many many many many other thangs
i would also like to say that not all americans are fat take me for example im a 16 yr old 4 ft 11 inches and weigh 80 pounds (and no im not sick i am just able to eat alot and stay skinny some people can do that and many can not)

For lots of reasons. America has become too much of a place for convenience & leisure. We eat too much or we eat too much of the things that aren't as healthy. We don't do enough activity. We sit around at home, on our computers, we watch hours & hours of TV, we play video games, etc. It's really our own faults, but it's too easy to fall into the rhythm of it all. It's just an American thing that's happening. It is sad. The saddest is seeing little kids who are already obese. I'm not that overweight & I'm trying to get back to healthy. Yay me! Another thing is depression & medications. We take all kinds of medications for all kinds of aches & pains & we also take antidepressants because we either have a chemical imbalance in the brain or because we sit around the house too much & don't have enough human interaction & are too lazy. It's crazy, because the more ways we have to communicate, phone, internet, etc, the lonelier we are. We need human touch, it's normal & healthy. We don't do enough activities, so all that makes us really sad. Even birth control contributes to weight gain, I know that one. Yep, lots of reasons. I don't do all the things listed but I've done & do several!

Americans want everything quick, simple and INEXPENSIVE, including the fuel that they put into their bodies. Many dieticians blame Americas obesity problems on fast food and this is a major factor, but the biggest factor (in my opinion) is what we put in our mouths on a daily basis. If we put in cheap processed grain products that are meant to sit on a shelf (and have) for long periods of time(economically cheaper), we will eventually feel fatigued, won't get the exercise we need and will thus pack on the pounds. If we eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in processed foods, we'll get more of the nutrients we need and feel better and get moving...for futher reading on this subject I recommend books by Dr. J. Mercola, M.D., Andrew Weil, M.D., and Kevin Trudeau.

Americans are lazy as hell. We eat too much junk that's convenient. We rely on technology too much to entertain them. Sports or rec sports seem to competitive so we give up.
I, for one, try not to follow this path as I've seen my co-workers waistlines grow wider and wider with each passing year. I walk or bike to work in the spring, summer, and fall, and in the winter workout on the treadmill and lift weights.
Have you noticed that people on the other side of the Atlantic are much more fit than Americans? They use their legs to get to where they are going, not a car or bus or subway. And they dont' eat as much in one setting yet snack in intervals.
Americans need to get off their lazy butts and start taking charge of this rapidly growing obesity epidemic.

Too much processed food available to us, every where you go, even the veggies and stuff have preservatives. And, if you want the organic stuff you have to pay out the butt for it....
