Why do people write 'Would of been.........', 'Would of had......' etc. when they mean 'Would have had.........' or 'Would've been...........' Is it some uk regional teaching failure, or are they simply stupid? I see it more recently.

So someone else has noticed then. O it does drive me up the wall that does. It just means that they can't understand what they are writing, and can't understand the basic grammar of their language. I guess it is just because such idiots don't actually realise that it is in fact have instead of 'of'. Perhaps such people don't read, if what you do most is talk, and they are ignorant by nature anyway, then they would know no better anyway.

It's evolution in action.
Either:
1. The language is evolving in the hands and mouths of those who use it.
2. Those who demonstrate this obvious lack of basic understanding of their own language will find over time that they are disadvantaged and their genes will be lost forever.

I'm hoping for 2, but realistically suspect that 1 is the case.

Simply some people write as they speak ... it is one of the many quirks of our dialect ..

In the same way teenagers brought up on a diet of 'Friends' now say 'like so totally' in numerous combinations and you will see that creeping into posts here as well.

i don't think its lack of education, its a craze amongst presumably young people to abbreviate as you do when txt on your moby but when your on this then speak or write queens english then we can all understand what your saying, but you know when i went to school many many years ago i always remember the teacher saying repeatedly and i have never forgotten his words, "you write exactly as you speak"

Lack of education. Spelling and grammer is appalling on this site, not that I check it, it's just there plain to see. My tax pays for education as well, I want a refund!

I think people juts write like they speak. More often than not you hear I would of been there on time if it weren't for my kids. So blame it on the improper speech of today's society.

It's lack of education, pure and simple. Absolutely nothing to do with dialects.
