I am renting an apartment for my vacation in New York. I have pics of the inside of the apartment but has anyone seen the building or know anything about the neighborhood?

What NYMan says. Its an excellent area. Within walking distance of NYC's best: incl. Yonah Shimmel's knish bakery on Houston; Moshe's Kosher bakery (on second ave I believe) Veniero's Italian bakery (The ricotta cheese cake cannot be topped); Second Avenue Deli; Katz's Deli on Houston & (Where Meg Ryan had her orgasmic experience); Ess a Bagel (one of NC's best bagel shops) on 1st Ave., & just north of China Town & East of the West Village. My son lives right around the corner.

I hope you have a good reason to trust the person who you're renting from. There are losts of bad people in the wold. People even sell houses they dont own; but you seem smart. Dont know the specific number but the neighborhood is on the upswing.

That is a fabulous location. You in fact couldn't be in a much better location to enjoy the street life in NYC. It is also, close to transportation.
All you will be doing is sleeping in the apartment. Most of that area has been seriously gentrified in the last 10 years anyway. You will be fine.
