I suspect that would be a very difficult, if not impossible, thing to find out. Scientists study the physiology of drowning by observing lab animals. It's not as though they can put a human in the tank, tell him to rap on the tank until he succumbs and then note the elapsed time and water inhaled. What the heck makes you ask?

they'll never really lose their conscience.. what they will lose is their conscious state.. there's a huge difference.. just cuz they're underwater they don't need to lose their conscience..
