I turned my father in to the health department and I am curious to know if anyone else has had to turn a loved one in for their horrible living conditions? What will they do?

His home has always been bad, he was a grown man so I left it at that. Witin the past four years he 's had two strokes. I've been to help him and he will not let you clean it. Basicaly we just keep rorganizing the mess. He has a leak that needs fixed since Christmas and possums living in the crawl spaces have knocked loose the heat ducts.

I LOVE MY DAD! I am not being judgemental I am very worried and helpless to do much about the situation. My half sister is too far away and I don't think she cares. My shared brother with my mom hates him. My other half brother tells me my dad is just fine.

it is because of love and practicality that you turned over your father under the care of those people whom you know could give the best care for him! just don't forget to visit him at times! i believe that you won't do that if only you have the means! just strive to make your life better.. and if your father would be given the chance to get better, this time, do your part... be the one to take good care of him... be at peace now...

"clean house" is a subjective concept. Why not First have him evaluated by a mental health specialist!!! Second, see a medical doctor for a complete check-up. He is probably depressed, maybe has an undiagnosed medical condition. Then, clean his house, throw out clutter!!, file keepsakes, and keep this up at least twice a month. If he has pet animals, two is the most he can care for now. Adopt the others out. Get him signed up for services like meals-on-wheels. If he doesn't have friends, his age, to visit, take him to the local senior center where he may make friends. Show him you love him ... quit the criticizing and judgmental attitude. Sometimes small kids are nice to visit with. Most of the time small kids are very tiring to older or depressed people. Maybe he would be happier living in a "group home" atmosphere with a private room he can retreat into. Good Luck!

I finally had to put my Dad in a nursing home because he no longer could take care of himself I almost had to go to that point because he is sooooooo hard headed but he had to go to the hospital because he was so sick. We have a adult agency that decide if they can live by themselves if he cant they will put him in a nursing home.

If you talked to your father before hand, then you did the wrong thing. If you did not talk to your father before hand, you did the wrong thing. It's his life and only he can change it! Unless he's mentally or physically deficient in which case you should be helping him out!

He's not going to realize that you did it out of concern. You did the right thing.
