Energy as such is same whether conventional or non conventional. It's only for our convenience, we make a demarkation. The energy derived from the chemical potential (stored energy) from the fossil fuels is conventional. Since it is taken from the earth, the quantity is exhaustible.
The other sources which are not exhaustible (in any known parameters of time frame) are renewable. The methods used to derive these energies are relatively new and hence non conventional. Hence the non conventional energy.

What we encounter in daily life such as heat produced by burning fossil fuels is termed conventional energy. Even though man kind knew of solar heat or wind power since long, he did not know how to store or transport this energy. This knowledge came much later when he learnt how to produce electricity from these sources. Though the sources are very conventional, the method adopted is some what unconventional. Hence these are called unconventional sources of energy.

you might be talking about convential and electron current flow. Using conventional current flow, founded by ben franklin, says that current flows from positive to negative, but this is wrong and later electron current flow was founded that says it flows negative to positive. People still use conventional at certain colleges because they dont want to change. But it doesnt change any calculations in any circumstance.

conventional energy are those energy which are going to get exhausted in future i.e they are present in limited source eg coal petrol etc. whereas non conventional energy are those energy which are inexaustible in future i.e they are present in unlimited quantity eg sun wind etc
