How do I find out for sure if he is divorced and let him know that I am interested? My sons next appointment is not for another 6 months. Is it unethical to make a consultation for myself just to get to probe? I do have a crooked front tooth;)

Just call up there ask to speak with him... tell him who you are and that you wanted to know if he had a few minutes to talk to you... if he does when you go to talk to him, just ask him out. The worse that could happen is he will tell you that he is seeing someone. Then just respect that and say your sorry. No harm done. and you got it all out of the way.

Call the office, speak to the front desk person and succinctly inquire into the marital status of the dentist.
I presume you make the appointments for your son, so if you do then you have some contact with his staff - however you must be careful because many times personal relationships or protective feelings run rampant in offices such as this and you may be fed misinformation.
If you need his services by all means make an appointment and at that time gently feel the guy out, but don't push it or overdo the dressing up, be honest and if the opportunity presents itself ask him outright if he is available and/or seeing someone.

Whatever you do, do not ask anything in front of your son.
Do not mix professional with personal. Wait until your son's treatment is over or switch orthodontists. Your son would be extremely uncomfortable and so would his orthodontist if you were to date now.

Well, why not ask the receptionist? I'm sure she could tell you, and if you feel like you need to make an appointment to get your tooth fixed, then do it.
