MOJITO (a rum drink from Cuba)
10 fresh mint leaves
1 & 1/2 oz. white rum
1 & 1/2 oz. lime juice
1 heaping teaspoon confectioners sugar
In a 10 oz. glass put in mint leaves and crush really well with a pestle if you have one or use a spoon and crush against the side of the glass be sure to crush really well.
Add confectioners sugar, ice, rum and lime juice. Shake well in a cocktail shaker and pour into glass. Amazingly refreshing! Ernest Hemingway was known to imbibe these rather liberally at a bar named La Bodegita in old Havana.

One of my favorites is something I made this summer during a cookout and found myself once again bartending for the whole block. It's a different version of the Caipirinhas drink. It's a Brazilian drink with lime, sugar and cachaca (a Brazilian rum) over ice. I didn't like the lime version, but the strawberry version was awesome.
4or 5 large strawberries
2 tablespoons sugar
2 oz. cachaca
ice
Muddle the strawberries in the shaker with the sugar. Fill shaker with ice. Pour the cachaca in, shake. Strain into an ice filled glass. Yummy.

GINGER POMIRITA
(A Margarita made with fresh ginger, pure pomegranate juice,
fresh lime/lemon juice and tequila)
I make this recipe for guests in my place & everybody just raves:
I/2 L. Tequila (of your choice, cheaper is just fine, 'the best' is wasted!)
1/4 L. pure pomegranite juice
1/4 L. pure Lemon/Lime juice (1/2 & 1/2)
1 'thumb' fresh ginger, blended 60 seconds with the juices then strained
(for an extra kick, seed and blend a jalapeño pepper with the ginger)
Serve over ice but no salt.

A Wisconsin Lunchbox- it can be used as a shot, or a drink
Take a rocks glass: half OJ, half domestic beer
Shot glass: Amaretto chilled and strained
Drop the shot into the rocks glass and chug!
It has a very smooth taste (great for breakfast for a hangover!), and still has enough umph to get you feeling good. Take it from a veteran bartender- this one's a keeper.

Malibu, pineapple juice, and an extra shot of good Vodka on ice. Maybe not that uncommon... You can make 'em VERY strong and they still taste yummy to people who aren't the biggest drinkers (like me). Got a couple unsolicited compliments from bartenders who tried it and liked it.
