Sex is so "embarrassing" that we have to invent other names for things with perfectly good names already. It almost seems that the only time that using the proper term feels comfortable is in a doctor's office. I think that the words considered to be dirty are a reaction to the more polite or gentler nicknames that started from the whole subject being so taboo. It's always fun to offend prudes with Victorian morals, in case you didn't know that. (Queen Victoria, now there was a prude!!) Every body part that feels good when touched has nicknames. (feeling good is sinful).
