you're question is completely justifiable.
I'm religious an still find myself asking that question. I don't think there is and answer because if God rvealed himself to all, the vast majority would have believed...which is what would have made more sense.
And even if there was an answer, I'd still consider the concept of religion in the first place (within the context of Christianity). Picture this, God exists/ God creates all that is good and yet allows evil to exist/ God creates man and gives man the CHOICE to follow or not/ Yet Got punishes those who won't. If this is true, do we really have a choice?
The reason I bring that example is to prove my point that I don't believe there is an answer. I go to church 3 times each week and these questions are really the ones that cant be answered (although they are the most significant).
The answer that christians would give is basically that "we'll all understand when we get to Heaven" or that "we should just have faith"
SO, with that said, your only options are to just have faith, or continue questioning something that there isn't really much of an answer to besides the opinion and poit of view from any given religion.

We can only make inferences from the Scriptures as to why God didn't do the equivalent of appearing as a huge face in the sky and speak to the entire world and say something like "I Am the God who created you, listen to my Son" like He did for three men almost 2,000 years ago.
Matthew 17:1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him."
Some of the factors that might be considered are that God wants us to trust in Him by faith and that some people still wouldn't believe but would say that it was just some fantastic and unexplainable occurrence like they do in effect nowadays when the stories about Jesus are mentioned.
Say God did something like that 5 years before you were born. By this time many people would have discounted it and those people who had not seen it would be just like people today who have to chose whether to believe God and the other people who have faith or people who try to explain away the Biblical account as myths and traditions and whatever else they can come up with to maintain their position in their own minds as their own personal "god" who is the final arbiter of what constitutes truth and morality.

He showed Himself to everyone in the form of Jesus. Then he left us to our own freewill. Jesus is the physical manifestation of God.

Because he doesn't really exist. His "appearances" are only as frequent as our imaginations allow.
