The impression I get: he is like an elder chief who is wise enough to understand war and urges to maintain peace. Yet the younger generation is caught up in the immediate and wants justice through violence and quick results.

Do you get that impression?

I'm not claiming to know anything about him. But some of what I have read in the past, led me to believe he may be a good voice in the Muslim community that may help keep things in perspective. I'm not claiming that is true or not, just an impression.

he has his own website as well , where he can answer your question I am indian hindu and he answered my question about islam, although he is old but I think he is not as powerfull as sadr, partly because sadr controls fallujah and has mahdi army , and then shia support sadr , because they think that mahdi army protects them from sunni's its like a vicious cycle where with every attack on shia's makes sadr more powerfull , although people do listen to sistani , but he has very limited control on the people and the govt , for example after the bombings of mosque , shia's wanted to take revenge from sunni sistani wanted peace , but its difficult to promote peace when people dont trust each other, so its was a great chance for sadr to improve his popularity and question sistani , some people mostly shias started to think sistani is america's stooge or he is trying to side with the USA, And I think that sistani is not a very big supporter of coalition troops either but he has no choice, at the end of the day the he may be the grand ayatollah of iraq but he hasnt got the power and sway on the govt or on people's opinion like the way shia leaders have in Iran. I think iraq's complex sectorian structure would mean that his power would diminish with time its anyways a fact that only powerfull leaders are able to put successors of own choice , and I really dont think that sistani woud be able to do that ......................its unfortunate but its all a game of power.

I think anyone who uses up more than 10 syllables in his name and title should have a nickname, but I can't think of one, anyone else?
