No,those people were taking the name of God in vain, breaking one of the 10 commandments.

For Jesus sake is the same as in Jesus name. It is praying through the son to the father the reason for this is Jesus is the way to the father all things go through him he is our salvation and our connection to the father.

Praying in Jesus' name and for his sake are very similar because when you pray in his name you are saying that you are praying for something that Jesus would approve of coming to pass here on earth. When you pray for Jesus' sake you are saying that you are praying for something that would advance the Kingdom work of Christ here on earth.

Pray in Jesus' name not for Jesus' sake. You don't need to worry about being confused. God knows what is in your heart. Just pray and have a conversation with God and don't worry about anything else.

We pray in Jesus name. There are many references in the bible that support why we should pray in his name. The only way to heaven is through the blood of Jesus. His sacrifice for our sins is the reason why we have a direct communication with God.

Only threw Jesus can you reach the father. Jesus suffered and died for our sins on the cross. We must acknowledge this and our gratitude to the father for sacrificing his son for us to be with him by praying in Jesus' name. In Jesus' sake would be OK to because Jesus showed us the way to pray so for his sake we do. So either way is OK. Just follow your heart when you pray and you'll know what to say by how you feel. God Bless You!

The praying in Jesus name means in the authority of Jesus are you asking for something.
For Jesus sake means according to the will of Jesus. As far as I can see, either will work as long as you are sincere in your asking and you ask according to God's will.

As we may see in the New Testament (When Jesus offers his prayer John 17) He prays to the Father; Jesus is our advocate with the Father, so my belief is to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Prayer is to be in the name of Jesus, prayer is for our sake! :) ...or for those for whom we pray I suppose...

Christ Himself promises that anything we ask in His Name the Father will hear. So we pray in Jesus' name.
To pray for His sake is to show your faith, your love and your obedience by praying in His name.
Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

Some people pray to Jesus because they think he is some kind of mediator between mankind and God and they say "well Jesus said, "No man comes to the father but by me" but consider this if that is true then what about all the people who lived before Jesus did they all burn in hell because they lacked this middle man?
