Are you asking about the US Army? Years ago, there were separate, distinct, divisions. I think it was after WWII, they, being our US government, abolished the WAC, WAF, etc, programs and we became the Combined Forces of the United States. And thus, on paper, no distinction. In reality? When I served, women were not allowed to serve in "combat related" roles. That still holds true to a big extent today. I know women are now allowed to be pilots but typically in support roles. Rank, command, compensation, benefits, all that are supposedly equal.

AMAZING WOMEN in WAR and PEACE
In the beginning of the America we know there was a Revolution. And although the call to arms was for men, several women donned the uniform of a Revolutionary soldier and fought against the British. One of these women was:
DEBORAH SAMSON**
In October of 1778 Deborah Samson of Plympton, Massachusetts disguised herself as a young man and presented herself to the American army as a willing volunter to oppose the common enemy. She enlisted for the whole term of the war as Robert Shirtliffe and served in the company of Captain Nathan Thayer of Medway, Massachusetts.
For three years she served in various duties and was wounded twice - the first time by a sword cut on the side of the head and four months later she was shot through the shoulder. Her sexual identity went undetected until she came down with a brain fever, then prevalent among the soldiers. The attending physician, Dr. Binney, of Philadelphia, discovered her charade, but said nothing. Instead he had her taken to his own home where she would receive better care. When her health was restored the doctor met with Robert's commanding officer and subsequently an order was issued for Robert Shirtliffe to carry a letter to General Washington.

Women in the US Army are permitted to serve in every field exccept combat arms: Infantry, Armor, Field Arty, Special Forces, Air Defense and Combat Aviation.
The law says that they may not serve in any capacititie with a high likelyhood of direct confrontation with the enemy. But as Iraq has shown in an insurgency you can come into contact with the enemy at any time. So we have had numerous examples of female military police in fire fights with insurgent fighters.
But female soldiers officer and enlisted are soldiers just like the men with the same pay and benfits and subject to the same rules and regulations

Women are allowed to be attached to Armor units at the battalion level. They are still prohibited from being directly assigned to such P1 units.
They can commonly be found in slice elements for air defense, communications, medical and maintenance that are attached to battalions.

Why people put up with illegal and immoral conduct of anyone around you, even you superiors, without reporting to it to everyone and anyone until the situation is rectified is beyond me?Why did you join the military if you have no physical or moral courage? If you don't stand up against wrong doing you don't have any right to waste other peoples time with your whining about the wrongdoing.
