Problem here might be that you get a mountain of chips with every fast food and it's really considered only a side and not a dish/ snack - but I shouldn't be answering that as I've never been there..
Thanks to my Austrian Mum I had the idea to open sweet restaurants there since these guys got so many delicious sweet meals! Would that work?

We have them, but they are usually found at fairs and sports arenas, and sometimes at malls.

It would be hard for a chip shop to compete against the established fries suppliers like McDonald's or Burger King, etc.

Goodness, how I miss those English fish & chips!

We have gourmet Pomme Frites shops in some cities (New York!) where you get a cone of Belgian fries and about a million different kinds of sauces to choose from. But you're right, it's not widespread, it's hard to find one. They are not mainstream.

Fish & Chip shops are a tradition in the UK. Even if other countries did open them, believe you me - they wouldn't taste the same!

If we gave the Americans "Chish & Fips" shops, boy, they would be sooooo fat they would have to be rolled about the place.
I would love to see the look on a yanks face when he is dished up mushy peas, pickled eggs, etc.

Not a bad idea!

We just have "greasy spoon" restaurants and diners serving fries with everything - burgers, etc.

And of course, "fast food." Ecch!

PS I've never been to England but my sister has, and she loves it there!

Fries are served in every restaurant and eatery here already. Really good fries I might add.
