They are closer to the ground and have a better sense of smell than us. Mind you, some dogs roll in it and puppies often eat it, so think yourself lucky!

Come to think of it, it is an offense in most places not to clean up after one's dog (I trust that you ALWAYS do) ... if you walk regularly in one place, please, please report all people who do not comply to your local council!

Dog noses are 100x more powerful than ours, so could you imagine walking around dog poo all day and having to smell it! It's no wonder when we walk them they step to the side of the poo and let us just step right in it LOL..perhaps that's kinda like their payback to us huh!

Dogs are smarter than humans. Dogs' sense of smell is 1000 times better than humans. Dogs' eyes are closer to the ground. Dogs are not thinking about some abstract thought while they are walking.

I too, have two dogs (cocker spaniels) I guess they just know not to go there! They must just be like us and watch where they are walking so as not to step in anything messy!

He probably never steps in it because you steer clear of it, and you are the one controlling the walk (at least I hope you are).

When dogs are running around, they do step in poo.

I have three dogs.

There can be only one pile in the whole back yard, but if it is in their path they have no problems at all plowing right through it.

I asked myself the same Q today while walking my 2 dogs, watching them running across the field.
Yet you can guarantee that one of my 2 daughters steps in some every time!!!!!!!!! Lol

Maybe when they're on a walk they don't but when mine get excited about seeing our neighbor they step everywhere-poo or no poo.

My 4 month old Boxer does the "walking poop" He doesn't just squat and go...he walks around while pooping. He has stepped in his own poop while doing this on numerous occasions.

And I'll just say this, I'd rather clean it off of my shoes than his feet anytime!!

A dog's sense of smell is 14 times greater than a human's, so he'd smell a turd a mile away. He is closer to the ground than we are too, so he'd see it before we would.

I've just had a new carpet in the hall and I reckon my dog goes tap dancing in the stuff and then runs round the house - my dog hates me!
