Yesterday as I was walking home from work, a big St. Bernard ran to me and started to bark. Then I stopped a talk to the dog to calm him down. He stared at me and started to bark. His owner says that the dog isn't usually like this. My dad always says that dogs don't like me because they sense that I am not a dog person? Could it be possible. My dad says when he walks in his neighborhood, dogs never bark at him. What gives?

I believe you dad is right. I have always thought that animals can sense when your afraid or don't like them.

I'm not really sure. But I do know many dogs will bark at unfamiliar things or people that pass close to what they consider 'their' territory. And then some dogs bark on general principle: I know several chihuahuas and a couple of terriers like that.

I easily have a 4 month previous Jack Russel terrier and whilst she sits on the door barking it particularly is often her way of telling you that she desires to circulate to the bathing room or she desires to circulate out on a walk. yet another ingredient she does is she paces out and in of the room i'm sitting wherein is yet another sign of her wanting to circulate out.
