As in foreign residents being allowed citizenship in a country. It sounds so degrading in my opinion. What do you think?

Guest Worker, I said I don't like the word. I wasn't talking about the process.

I agree that PC has it's limits. To call a foreign language a Language Other Than English for me has already transgressed that limit. I guess the limits are different for every person and we'll never come to an agreement.

well (nothing against you, because i use it too), but some would even consiter you saying "foreign" degrading, to an extent.

i don't know about your school, but we no longer call them "foreign languages," but "Languages Other Than English (LOTE)." and maybe all schools do that and i'm just stupid.

but i think it all depends on the person. for instance, i'm not too tweaked by using the word "naturalization," but some people might be ten times more offended than you are by it.

I will tell you my opinion. We are having to be so PC that soon it will be against the law to call a baby a baby. We will have to say .. oh I am having a smaller human or some stupid crap like that.

Becoming to PC is destroying our country!

Some will never accept the concept on "naturalization" or assimilation because both require the understanding of American English. If they reject either they deserve neither.

I don't know what you would call it. Citizenization? Notillegalalienization? I agree that it has a degrading tone to it like calling a baby illegitimate.

I like the word. this is the legal way of becoming a citizen in your country..

When you say you dont like naturalization aren't you encouraging illegal immigration?

When you dont like naturalization and illegal immigration, what are you suggesting. US shut its doors to immigrants?

It is healthy for people to want to become citizens of countries other than their own place of birth for various reasons..

It sounds OK to me. How else would you describe the process? "Assimilation" sounds scary to me, like something the Borg did on Star Trek.

I'm with Rox; people can be insulted by anything sometimes. What a decade .. or what uneventful lives some folks lead.

How about "citizenization?"
