'Most bacon consumed in the UK is back bacon (also called short back bacon). The cut comes from the loin in the middle of the back of the animal. It is a lean meaty cut of bacon, with relatively less fat compared to other cuts.

Back bacon is known as Canadian bacon in the United States but not in Canada, where it is simply called back bacon. [...] The "Canadian" bacon sold in the United States is plain lean back bacon.

[...] Streaky bacon (the most common form of bacon in the United States) comes from the belly of a pig. It is very fatty with long veins of fat running parallel to the rind.'

If I am not mistaken Canadian Bacon is cured but not smoked and it is taken from the upper part of the pigs side (more meaty less fat) instead of the lower belly area where American style bacon comes from.

nope, canadian bacon is just canadian bacon. and even if it would be just ham, canadian bacon sounds much nicer, so let it rest and call it canadian bacon in peace and with a smile on your face!

It's like French Fries, Polish Sausage, English Toast etc. and every country wants to have something named after them. Like Iran away, I threw Iraq.
