I thought that maybe it might need to be reconstructed. Does anyone know about this or have thay had it done? I have alot of problems with leaking and the wafer not sticking.

You probably are not cutting the flange close enough to the bud. The flange needs to be cut and placed right next to the bud, so when the liquid comes from your ostomy, it doesnt irritate your skin. Is the skin around the stoma red and irritated or is the bud irritated. If it is the skin, you can wash it off really good and put a skin protectant on the skin which is sold by ostomy supply companies dust (dont cake) it with some ostomy powder and re apply the flange with some ostomy paste.
If you get into problems, many hospitals have ostomy nurse specialist who would be glad to consult with you about the irritation around your stoma.
Also, you may want to see a general surgeon to have him look at your stoma. He can run test to determine if the stoma is infected or you need antibiotics. Dont go to a general practitioner, because they dont surgically put these things in and basically dont understand the whole ostomy care thing and will probably not give you as good advice as a general surgeon. Is your ostomy reversible? I just recently had a pt who had an ostomy "take down" or reversed after 10 years. Maybe that is an option, but of course, you would need a general surgeon to tell you.

You need to go speak to a specialist. make an appointment with a surgeon to check on the stoma. Dont take people's medical advice off the computer. Go see your regular medical doctor even he/she will be able to tell you about the stoma and if they think you may need reconstructive surgery. PLEASE get a professional opinion

Why would you ever trust what a bunch people on Yahoo answers have to say about YOUR HEALTH??
Go to the Doctor and have it looked at.
