Mayonaise is commonly used in France, in England vinegar is the thing. I have tried both and like them both. A friend of mine and I were having lunch together and he ordered his fries well done with brown gravy, it was delish!

You are talking about a traditional sauce that cooks in Belgium have been using on their frys for a millennium. The sauce is mayonnaise based with the addition of herbs, sometimes chives, or garlic and parsley, tarragon is very good, so is sun dried tomatoes. Frys in Belgium come with two or three little dishes of different flavored mayonnaise on the side to dip into as you please. Here are four simple recipes to get you started. Homemade mayonnaise is extraordinary........but that is another question isn't it!
1/4 cup homemade or store bought mayonnaise
3 Tb of minced chives
1/4 cup homemade or store bought mayonnaise
1 Tb of freshly grated lemon rind
1 Ts lemon juice
1/4 cup homemade or store bought mayonnaise
3Tb minced fresh Tarragon
1/4 cup homemade or store bought mayonnaise
3 Tb minced sun dried tomatoes
Combine each mixture well and let it rest to meld the flavors for a few minutes. Serve on the side in little dishes or a dab of each on the plate with your frys. A joy to eat!

I love mayo on fries but only do it that way occasionally. Usually I'll put salt on my fries and have some ketchup in a puddle on my plate for dipping.

I haven't tried mayonnaise but it sounds like it's worth a try. I like poutine. That's french fries with gravy and melted cheese. Ketchup optional.

I HATE mayonaise... its like the grossest thing ever to me.... but I know a lot of people who mix ketchup and mayonaise together.... they say yum, I just about throw up.

I love to bake up some crispy fries ... load on some shredded cheddar, crumbled bacon, chives and drizzle with some ranch dressing !!!!! Maaannnn ... now I'm all hungry

i love sour cream on my fries. since it tastes so good on baked potatoes, i tried it on fries and it is great. i prefer to dip the fries before eating.

Yes I have, and it's good!! I also like to use sour cream, ranch, honey mustard, sweet and sour, ketchup, melted cheese, ranch sour cream dip, french onion dip, thaousand island dressing, and vegetable dip.
Oh yeah, and frostys from Wendy's.
