In this day and age, it's a little more accepted for a woman to have a one night stand. But more or less I think it's because women are expected to be a little bit more emotional than men and unable to handle the whole point of a one night stand- to avoid commitment. Either way, I won't knock anyone for doing what they want to do, as long as they're safe and happy. Life is too short to judge other people's actions!

Not that it's okay for either, but it's easier for men to do it.
Really, I think a one night stand is different thing for a man than a woman.
A man can walk away from a one night stand and never think about it again. However, a woman could end up pregnant. Call it unfair, but women have a greater responsibility, thanks to biology. Society knows this and sees a woman who has a one night stand as someone who has done something much more irresponsible than the man. Unfair, but true.
It's a generalization, but it is far more common for a man to do the one night stand thing. Most men find casual physical encounters very satisfying, whereas most women are far more sophisticated; a quick encounter isn't going to do it for her.
Also, sex in general is more casual for men: we have to touch our reproductive organ every time we pee, for pete's sake - we'll even pull it out on the street to relieve ourselves; it just ain't a big deal. Usually if a woman goes there, that's a significant and special thing.

This is an international cultural understanding. Women were always preparing for marriage and protected by family and friends. Men were constantly searching for this rare commodity. So houses bars etc. were set up with women that gave up their right to marriage to survive. thus it has been for countless thousands of years.
Much worse before when there was no protection for women who were frequently raped and considered used goods.
Families received money for marriageable women of good breeding.
It was considered a shame for a woman to casually give it away. Her future would be finished. The stigma lives on.
Even today , men are on the prowl and women choose to accept or not.

Society... women are historically viewed as the "fair maiden", virtuous, shy... brought up by their mother to have morals and remain a virgin until her wedding night. Well, that's how it used to be, but most of are political, religious, and social principals still have that perception.
While men are still heralded as male lions, Martina Navratilova said it best... Wilt Chamberlain and Magic Johnson are celebrated and pitied for having sex with supposedly over 20,000 women, but if a woman athlete were to do the same, she'd be labeled as some choice words.

It depends what standards you have. I couldn't do that (have a one night stand), as I have incredibly high standards. By the same token, as the others have mentioned, some women have very low standards. Their is a whole equilibrium of standards ranging from the god worshippers who practise celebacy, to the street workers. It's just that the median value for boys tends to be much lower than the median value for girls. Their are probably thousands of reasons (like society and culture) to blame, but i prefer to look at the hard facts of life (of which i have yet to find conclusive evidence of what has determined those median values and spreads).

Who said women can't? Someone has to be the other half of the guys 1 night stand! Besides a sexually empowered woman is quite a turn-on.

Why wouldn't it be alright? A guy can't have a one night stand by himself. Well, I guess he could but it's not nearly as much fun. Don't let what others think control your life. As long as you are of age and careful with your choices, I say go for it!

Hey hon, its alright for us gals to have one night stands too - we just need to turn the emotion/commitment dials down after. There are lots of us women out there that like one night stands, so go ahead, it is alright.
