Cristoforo Colombo (Cristhopher Columbus), born in Genova, Italy discovered the American continent, so they celebrate him.
Thanksgiving because that's about when the Native Americans fed the Pilgrims when they were starving.

We didn't know any better about Columbus, but hey, it's a day off, and we're not going to get rid of that. Maybe we could rename it Discovery Day, or something like that. We have Thanksgiving because that's about when the Native Americans fed the Pilgrims when they were starving. Look at how we paid them back for it!

When America was founded, holidays were instituted to help install a sense of history for the young country. Thanksgiving evolved slowly over the decades, but is a harvest festival more or less like many other countries have.

Columbus day is mostly a political thing. We also have a Pulaski day, etc. Its not too difficult to petitiion the government to acknowledge the achievements of a historical figure.

Holidays are fun for kids and its a day of for most of us. Whayda want for nuthin'? A rubber biscuit?

Columbus has achieved a landmark by discovering america and it is a thanksgiving day for americans because that day is the beginning of the history of america and present signifies the brilliance of that achievement .

Because Columbus was a pretty good Joe. Thanksgiving gave us something to do pre-NFL.

Columbus is credited for discovering America and Thanksgiving is just what is says. A day for giving thanks to the Lord for all we have received.

Maybe because it was the founding of North America and United States is in North America.
