it is a benign fluid filled cyst...used to be called a bible bump because preachers could break them by pounding the bible. i would say they prb draw the fluid out of them or make a small incision to remove it.

Hi there!

Two cures available... One relies on moderns science and medical advances, the other on old fashioned country doctor know-how.

Cure #1 - Go to the doctor, he operates and removes it. A fairly common procedure, no major complications, and easy to do. However, you better have health insurance or it's gonna cost you some ridiculous amount of money. And there is the recouperation time involved. It is surgery, after all....

Cure #2 - A bit of history first.... what is now called a ganglion cyst on the back of the wrist used to be called a Bible cyst. Why, you might ask?

Well because the local family doctor (or grandmother, as the case may be) would have you lay your forearm on a table with your wrist and hand hanging off of the edge and the Bible cyst pointing upward... And then he/she would take something fairly heavy such as the family Bible (usually a three inch thick tome), hold it firmly in both hands and whack the crap out of the cyst. This is immediately star-seeing painful for about 5 minutes and Lo! and Behold!, the cyst is gone and you have full mobility out of the hand and no numbness within about 10 minutes. Viola!

Yes, about 10 years ago I got two ganglion's one on each foot ,the one on the right foot was very large, hurt really bad and was making me walk on my foot wrong. They want to cut both off at the same time "Ganglion's " not feet lol.....I didn't want to be totally down because of work...So, I only had the right foot done ..They said it could grow back...But, it is doing fine ....The other foot hasn't changed in size & dose not hurt..So, for now I just live with it. But, that other one was painful...It's up to you if you want it removed I guess it depends on location on your wrist if Doctors can remove it.Mine was attached to big bone on top of my foot...That was removed...The one I still have is in some of the tenions & nerves lower on the left foot.So ,that's also was some of my reasoning to leave it there...I hope I have help ya understand a little bit more about them...As far as I can tell they no real know reason why some people get them and some people don't ...I have worked most of my life on my feet sooo..maybe that is why....Have you used your hands alot in your work feild ? Computer, typing ...That may be part of it... Thanks and the very best to you.

A ganglion is a sac like swelling/cyst formed from the synovium tissue in the tendon of a joint ;in this case the wrist.
Ganglia affect also the ankle and knee joints.
It's filled with jelly-like fluid.
It can be a result of trauma or of unknown origin.
It can sometimes be an early sign of arthritis.
It is usually painless, unless there has been injury.

Cure?
1. It can spontaneosly burst and disappear.
2.Aspiration-removal of that fluid with a needle and syringe, with or without cortisone injection.
3. Surgical resection /removal.
The second and third are performed ,of course,by a doctor/surgeon.
If there's recurrence ,see a doctor for evaluation for systemic arthritis.

I actually developed a ganglion cyst during pregnancy and I swore it was a broken bone or something, it was SO hard, but everyone told me the same you are hearing here, bust it or have it removed. I have heard having it surgically removed was actually worse than busting, but I do not know, because my Dr. told me it would go away once I had the baby, and even though I didn't believe him, it did!

Ganglion is a small swelling along a tendon and contains fluid.. It is excised under local anesthesia. That cures it.

There are two methods. The first is the accepted medical method by removing it, or a little more brutal but very inexpensive and fast, is to have someone smack a book down on it. I am a physician and that does work. I told this to a Filipino patient and she refused to believe it, she went to her old Portuguese physician and he smacked a book down...when she told me about it...I said that I had told her before how to do it. She replied that her old doctor had used a Bible! I was going to used a medical textbook!

Sometimes they will go away on their own. I had to have mine surgically removed. If it has been there more than a week or two I would see a doctor.
