And I suppose the 'other' side of your question is - If Satan does not exist, then what basis is there for evil, sin, and misery???
I think it's called 'human nature' --- as in, nature of the beast. . .

If the only people who do not deserve your love are the enemies of God then is god the source of intollerance? If the only thing you need fear is loosing faith in God, would fear be gone if there was never a god? When you attribute feelings and deeds to God how is it possible that Athiests see and feel things the same way that Christians do?
Love is indeed a chemical reaction Biology proves this. It is the mechanic of our instinct for creating and nurturing life. It makes us form bonds with our mate and our offspring as well as those who look after us.
Peace is a more conscious survival behavior. We are reasonning animals and able to understand the outcome of violence. We are aware that even distant violence can affect us so we logically work towards answers that don't involve the risk of violence.
Joy is harder to establish a Basis for, not because there is no knowedge of the chemical reaction that causes endorphin intoxication but because it's hard to understand why so many different things trigger this reaction. It's actually the weakpoint of most of the arguments that God is required for these feelings. Why would God allow Athiests to have so much Joy in their life if he was indeed it's source?

Logic?
Don't misunderstand, I believe in God but Religion is not the sole source of compassion, happiness or peaceful intention.
These qualities are the only logical conclusion a thinking person can come up with if they actually contemplate the situation we are in.
God may be necessary to some but many just want to be loving because it is the only thing that makes any sense.
Love and blessings

Love, joy, and peace don't depend on the existence of a god. This question is exactly like asking "If Star Trek is just fictional, how could you ever say that you'd fallen in love?" or "If Barry Bonds isn't the greatest player ever, how could people ever live together peacefully?".
If you have to dig this deeply to try to defend your worldview, you should definitely consider that your worldview is pretty shoddy.

What a stupid question.
God didn't 'create' love, joy and peace. These are the basis of human existence... If your theory was correct, because I don't believe in god, I am incapable of knowing love, joy and peace. It's human nature, stupid. Not god.

There are people on here that only fool themselves into believing they can get along just fine in this world without GOD. It is a miserable existence, without God. You may have some of those things, (Love, joy, and peace) at different times but you will never feel them to the fullness as you will when you are walking with GOD. Some of these people have never felt God so you cannot in human terms explain what you have. They just don't get it! We must pray the Holy Spirit can call them, that is their only hope.

There's about as much need for a god to have love, joy, and peace as there is for a tooth-fairy for kids' teeth to fall out.

the basis for those things is just part of the nature of being free and at peace with ones self, God is and isn't involved, that soley depends on what we choose to believe and what we choose to follow, as long as we do our best at living and being full of love, joy and peace we are complelting a cycle of divine nature. Faith leads us and later we triumph though love.

Now that's a very good question.
There would be no basis for love, joy and peace. Sort of what most of the world is going throught right now.... which is what those that hate God and Christians are actually promoting.

God does exist; therefore, there is a basis for love, joy and peace, but only in the Lord. In the human context of these three, love is lust, joy is self-indulgence, and peace is seclusion. True love comes from fellowship with God, true joy comes from praising God and true peace comes from depending on God. Spiritual growth comes from experiencing these three in God. God created us as physical beings with his spiritual nature inside us. Most people neglect that spiritual nature or they channel it in the wrong direction, which is why they never grow spiritually. Salvation boils down to this question: Do you want to grow spiritually and thereby enjoy what God has waiting for you, or do you want to stagnate and deny yourself the opportunity to live in the eternal love, joy and peace of God? Hell is more of a place of loneliness and separation, than it is of physical torment. the spiritual pain there will be far greater than any physical suffering.
