US support for Israel and its interventionist policies are really thorny issues in the ME, and that's probably where some of this "hate" is coming from. I'm not saying terrorism is justified, it is evil and gratuitous, and no amount of provocation warrants the mindless killings of innocent people. But we should at least acknowledge that maybe there’s a lot more history involved here. Plus, it really isn't too difficult to understand why nations resent it whenever another country meddle in their domestic affairs. People consider this intrusion as a violation of their sovereignty or worse, an act of aggression for which retaliation is justified. And the thing is, since not many of these nations actually have the inclination nor wherewithal to engage the US in a full scale war, they retaliate by staging proxy wars, thru extremist groups like al qaeda.

Why do you think USA and not France or Italy or any other Western Europe country, they are all Christians, aren't they .. it is not religion, but the constant interference from the USA into the region's affairs, they do not want RELATIONS with the countries in the Middle East like Europe who respect the differences and treat them as partners in trade and so on, rather the USA wants to CHANGE those nations into their own ideology, and it is against those people's wish, so the USA is interfering in everything from TV programs to Educational syllabus, forcing gay rights, women rights, all according to US principals, which are different. Why does the US care how things are run in Egypt, or Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, or China? Maybe people living there accept those methods, and if they don't they can fight to change it, why is the USA intervening??? Most people in the area feel they are being forced by the US into becoming something they don't want, and thus you have resistance in the form of Bin Laden and that is why they have extreme support from the average people.
Second reason is the complete and bias support of the USA to Israel, despite all the wrong things Israel is doing to civilians and despite its blatant disrespect to all international laws and security council resolutions and yet protected and supported financially and militarily by the USA.

Member "ally" has given the main reasons for Muslim extremist hatred of U.S. but the statement about Israel taken from Muslims and given to Jews is not correct. That region has wavered from Jewish to Muslim for at least 4,000 years. The Jews were forced out twice to serve as slaves in Muslim countries. If we want to pick a specific era of history to brand ownership of a region to a particular group of people, we will have a difficult time assigning ownership of Tibet, Taiwan, Xinjiang Province, Texas, Hawaii, Northern Ireland, etc. The U.N. made a mandate for Palestine following the British mandate of September 11, 1920. Now the world, including Syria, Hezbollah and other Muslim groups must learn to live with the presence of non-Muslims in the land of Abraham. Jews and Muslims are mostly the same race but religious people always believe those who don't follow their religion are evil people who must be destroyed.

The reason is a thousand years of persecution of Muslims around the world. However, there is no excuse for terrorism or violence of any kind. In 1095, European Christians took over many Muslim countries insisting that Islam was wrong and forced Christianity upon the people, this was the beginning.
For hundreds of years muslims have been kicked out of their territory by Christian nations. Israel was taken from Muslims and given to the Jews, Muslims were forced out of Turkey and again in Lebanon. In all cases the US or its Western allies have had a hand in the persecution.
Its funny how in our country people get so worked up about the separation of church and state, and the "dont force religion on me" attitudes, but they think its right for us to force Christianity upon Muslim nations in the name of "freedom and democracy"

No country deserves to be a victim of a terrorist attack. America's unwavering support for Israel and it's poor track record in the Middle East may be the reasons for the attacks but this doesn't mean they're justified.
