Give your vet a call anyway- most clinics will have a recording with a number to call in case of emergency. Otherwise see if there is a 24 hour clinic in your area that you can call.

She should be okay- spay wounds should have multiple suture layers, but if she's managed to open it right up, she could herniate intestine through the wound which obviously can have some fairly nasty consequences!

In the meantime, put a dressing/bandage over (not too tight!) and make sure she doesn't traumatise the area further.

I am not a vet, but I am a vet tech. If there is no blood, the dog must have just chewed the sutures from the outer layer and not the muscle layer. You do need to make sure she does not chew the sutures out of the muscle layer, or you could have a serious emergency, so watch her closely.

If you have some gauze or even a wrap, you can wrap the belly area, but not too tightly. Call an emergency clinic in your area and advise them of the situation. They may want to you bring her right in, or they may tell you to be at your vet's when the door is unlocked. But....please watch her closely to prevent further chewing.

CALL THE VET ASAP. Then, try wrapping gause wrap or something like it around the dog's wound. Replace every hour or so until the vet opens. If the wound starts to bleed or look infected, CALL THE VET! If your vet isn't open 24/7 then go online and search the web.

Call the Vet, most have an answering service. Keep the dog from chewing or licking at it. Put a tshirt on the dog. Not over the head (probably too short since its a big dog.) Pull it from the back legs and tie the end so it covers the wound.
DO CALL though.

Damn dogs.
For a dane I would use gauze pad and an ace bandage wrapped around her abdomen. You also don't need the E collar once they are replaced. You can keep the ace bandage around her to keep her from chewing. Its safer than those collars especially on a dane.

They will have to sedate again to restitich.
Thank you for spaying.

Not a vet. Yes of course close it. I would use bandaids as temp closures. I would also call an emergency vet and get her in quickly. Get a cone for her so she can't do that again.

I'm not a vet but have worked with injured animals before. If you have some of that gauze (rolled) wrap, try binding her up. Not too tight, though. Just enough to hold it shut until your vet can advise you better. :)

While I suggest you watch the dog, I would not worry to much. My cats did the same thing. In my bed. I was pulling sutures out of my bedding for quite a while. I freaked when the first cat ripped hers out. The vet chuckled abit as he calmly told me she was doing what needed to be done. I of course cannot say my cat is just like your sisinlaws dog, but that is the best I know to say.
I hope everything works out.

My puppy had to where an e-collar for a few days because she wanted to keep biting and licking her stitches. You can take them off and on so I would take it off for awhile when I was watching her closely and then back on afterwards.

When you get to the vet, ask them for one of those cone things to put around her neck and head to keep her from getting at her stitches. I am very surprised that they did not give you one from the start. They also have a new type of neck brace that keeps them from getting down there. I've had one for a cat that had surgery. It keeps their head straight and they can't bend it down, kind of like a neck brace if you injure yourself.
