Yeah I must agree too.
Its good to see many people in their early 20's dropping religion all together.
Look, maybe religion has SOME good guide lines on how to live life without cruelty to others but please....
Fanatacism is absurd. It occurs in christianity, judism and muslim faiths (And many more)....
Just remember that religion is man-made.
I'll be glad to see the time when religion is abolished.

I am amazed that there is this long, drawn out answer that still does not even come close to proving anything... once again someone is talking in circles attempting to prove their faith. I do believe that where you are from can play a role in a persons beliefs. I was baptized Methodist and my mother and I attended church regularly until I was about 12 and started to question what the preacher was saying and found it to all be so ludicrous and without logic or proof... I was well beyond that age where I realized that fairy tales were fake and it felt like some evil fairy tale full of hate and ignorance. Luckily, I found out that my mother wasn't really a true believer either and we stopped going... If she hadn't been supportive I could have easily been "forced" to be christian and who knows what effect that would have had on me.
I have a big problem with a religion that believes that it is the only way and those who don't believe aren't worth a happy life.
I decided a while ago that I choose to be good for the sake of being good, not for some promise or eternal reward.

I am in perfect agreement with you that you will find out the truth about God and heaven and hell and all of the other unseen things of this universe when you die---all of us will. My parents did not influence my decision to become a Christian. I was raised in a Christian-minded household, but we did not go to a Christian church. I was foreordained to become a minister of Jesus Christ---the Holy Spirit saw to that. You are correct, however, that where a person is born has a great deal to do with what faith a person is raised in, and most people adopt the faith of their parents. Today, thee is a falling away from faith with more and more people ending up like yourself, either agnostics or atheists or members of cults. The Bible has prophesied this as part of the end times, which I believe that we are in. The world is on the edge of a very explosive time---the situation in the Middle East is evidence of that. You do not want to be preached to, therefore I will not. I will respect your desire not to change---I will not change.

If its hard facts you want, you won't get them. From whatever religion you ask. All they want you to do is believe. Or else they'll quote some scriptures to you. You made an excellent point about location of birth. Imagine if Bin Laden was born in Jerusalem. I was born and raised a catholic in Ireland but I'm agnostic now. The location of your birth will most probably determine what faith you have. And for the most part its forced on you and if you don't toe the line you're seen as different or "wrong" in your line of thinking. Thats what I've experienced. I'm glad you posted this.

Your argument that a christian man in England if born in Jerusalem would be Jew. Of course someone born in America would be an American. Doesnt mean that a christian Jew or an English christian would have the same viewpoint, as the Jewish people have a different history than the English people,so it also matters where and in what country you are born.

This is why religions are known as faiths. The people accept them without demanding proof. Religion serves a major purpose in life as man believes that he is too special simply to be born, to live and die and then nothing. Atheism doesn't offer anything after this existence, but others feel comfort in God. At one time, many scientists were also atheists but many have come to a religion as they too are only mortals with the same fear of death and the void. Yes regions spawn religious beliefs but many change their thoughts about their faith and convert. I was born Catholic but I am now Buddhist. To show that Buddha was a teacher, we only need to visit the Potala Palace in Lhasa, to read his work (thousands of sutras written in Sanskit by Buddha himself) but Buddha was not God, He was only a teacher to explain the path to enlightenment or purification of the soul. Every person needs only to be content with his ideas and beliefs.

firstly, not to preach but everyone has a right to believe whatever they want...i am christian but don't force my beliefs on others, its down to the individual but at the same time i dont expect others to dictate to me what is right or wrong when it comes to my beliefs... its all about tolerance at the end of the day. my beliefs were never shoved down my throat from a young age, yes we learnt about christianty all through primary school but if i didnt want to believe then i didnt have to. Also, Christianty spawns from Judaism (Jews) so its no necessarily about region as buddhists crop up everywhere, not just in india and the orient... There are no hard facts that religion is true, there has always been theories though. Science may contradict religion but i don't think it does any harm to believe that there is a greater entity out there.

Faith is an internal thing and therefore people need as little or as much proof as the next person. I don't believe in the institutionalised version of God, but I don't mind those who do. It gives a lot of people a reason to exist and a structure to our society. Where do we get our behaviour codes and concept of right and wrong from? Faith.
Unfortunately a lot of people have used God's word as a reason to force their own agendas and inflict pain and suffering on others. For this reason alone I do not practice any form of religion.
For me, my impact will be on those I leave behind and my heaven is in their thoughts, actions and memories. My physical self will be pushing up daisies.

There IS no proof. That's the point. And besides - no one OWES YOU an explanation for WHY they believe WHAT they believe. Take responsibility for yourself. Stop blaming others for how you feel. I'm always surprised by how angry and frustrated many atheists are. If you truly believe that you KNOW the TRUTH - than why aren't you happy? People spend their entire lives searching for the truth. And here you are. Pissed off about life from the moment you wake up - to the moment you go back to sleep. Why would anyone - in their right mind - want to follow YOUR example - YOUR TRUTH?! And I'm curious - what region of the world did you grow up in? Craig!! :o)

I have no proof that God or Jesus did exist either, I just believe that someone or something does help me when I have my ruff times and if that is God then fine by me, my parents didn't believe in god because of all the death in families and always said if god does exist then why does he take people away, I never had the answer for that one either, but I just believe there is something that gets you through hard times and it is more than your strength too, no one has to believe in anything they don't want to, there is no law that says you have to either.

It is impossible to prove there is a God or that the Christian God is God for two reason mainly. First Paul said "We live by faith, not be sight." (2 Cor 5:7).
Hebrews 11:1 says: "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." God requires us, now, to accept Him by faith. He has done everything He needs to do to prove to man what He will do for them and who He is.
God, at one time, had a visual presence on earth. An example would be the light that led the Hebrews through the desert after they left Egypt. Even though the glory of God could be seen by the people following Moses, it did not keep the people faithful to God. People have a astounding ability to ignore and devalue anything, including the presence of God in their midst.
Second, God will not allow Himself to be tested by mortal man. He is God and we are not. We have no right to require any kind of proof from Him and, moreover, even if He did appear on earth it would not convince anyone who has chosen not to believe in Him.
You have chosen not to believe in God or at least the Christian God. You have the absolute right to make that choice. You also know what the consequences of the choice may be. My pointing it out to you again will have no influence over you.
God has made it perfectly plain that He will not be manipulated by human beings for any reason at all. You either have faith or you don't. No "proof" of His existence is going to be forthcoming.
I know God exists because I know the influence God has had on my life. I can't drag this out and show it to you. It's not transferable from one person to another. Every person, including you, has to deal with question of Jesus himself.
