A friend of mine used to have a spider phobia. It meant that every room she wanted to go in had to be checked for spiders by someone else first. In the summer she usually didn't open the windows for fear that a spider came in. She couldn't look at pictures of spiders, couldn't watch movies that included spiders, she couldn't even stand the sight of rubbers spiders. She was, at some point, totally dependent on other people because other people had to check rooms and the bathrooms etc. for spiders. At some point both her parents and the boyfriend she had then more or less forced her to see a doctor who send her to a psychiatrist. After quite a lot of sessions she found out her fear of spiders consisted of something that had happened to her when she was young, with regards to spiders, and of some other problems she'd been having since childhood. It took some time but she got over her phobia although she's still not a fan of spider movies. This is a short simplified version, by the way.

I have a phobia of needles going more than 1 mm into my skin. I cant even stand to watch someone get shots or poked, it gives me to creeps. It's just something about a long tube stabbing through my muscles and other tissue and the threat of hitting bone creeps me out.

I guess a phobia is an irrational fear or strong disdane of something.

A phobia is when you have a real fear of something, no matter how silly it may be to others. It can be from dying to a speck of dust on the floor. Phobias don't always make sense.
