Despite knowing that is not 'normal', I do not sleep during the night. I work from 4pm to 12am five days a week, and find it easier to stay awake all night and go to bed in the early hours of the morning. I usually wake up around 2pm every afternoon. This has all but halted my cardio simply because I cannot ride my bike or run in the middle of the night (I'm a petite, blonde girl who would be asking for trouble). Also, I'm afraid to be too active in my home for fear of waking my family up. Also, I have no one to do it with any longer.

Any suggestions?

I cannot change my sleeping pattern: I've tried. I can modify it by a few hours, but because of my hours at work, sleeping on a normal schedule would be terribly uncomfortable and exhausting.

If you're in a larger metropolitan area, some fitness centers where the population can support it have gone to 24-hour service.

If a 24 hour gym isn't an option for you, would you be able to do your cardio when you get up before you go to work? At 1 or 2 pm, it should be safe to run or bike, as long as it's not too hot outside. Or you could do a video or other cardio inside without worrying about waking anyone up.

If you prefer to workout at night, you could try muting the sound of a treadmill or jumping around to a video with matting. Great mats are thick and do well for muting sound: http://www.greatmats.com

A static bicycle is all that you need.
