If the bible and other religeous material such as the torah etc is real and to be believed then what evidence is there for it to be believed in. If the bible is worshipped then why was the lord of the rings not a shrine to worship too. Both were written by man.

Any opinions?

I am an atheist, but I can tell you right now that the religious followers will have a field day answering this. Among others, they will tell you that:

1. That's what faith is all about. We who have no such faith are to be pitied and or scorned. The faith argument alone brings everything to a stop, because how can you prove anything by faith?
2. They will turn the tables around by some analogy, like "have you ever seen an atom?" or "can you see ideas?"
3. Some will say that you see God through nature, his different blessings, how he has touched and changed people's lives, etc etc.

Well, what evidence is there to say they wer written by a man.

i did some research a while ago on the Bible, the Holy Quran, and the Torah. i found out that in the torah and the bible there were many contradictions in the books themselves. unrealistic stories as well, which seem to have been written by powerfull men in the past who wanted total control over others.

However the real copies of the Torah are in Jerusalem, and the real copies of the Bible are also in jerusalem, and in Rome in the hands of the Pope.

But, when i came across the Quran, the research is shocking. the whole book is a riddle, its constructed mathematicaly. if u remove only ONE letter from the book, the whole mathmatical construction falls apart. this is beyond any human power or mind, the world genuises tried figuring the secrets out and no one could. so there must be some supernatural power behind it.

plus, it contains many secrets and facts and 'miracles', there are things that have been written 4000years ago in the Quran and scienticts are finding about them now. thats how many converted to Islam. including a friend of mine.

one very amazing example is some paragraph in the quran that described how a baby comes alive, from the moment it starts as a blood spots, it described exactly every stage...and thats how science reached it, by following that explanation. today we all know the stages....but how did someone one thousand and 400 years and somthng ago possibly knew this??! theres noo way!

and how did the quran explain the movements of the sun and the moon and the planets?

The usa spent about 5 or 7Billions to check if the moon was split in 2 halves one thousand 400yrs and sumthng ago as some claimed. if u look on the quran it says that the prophet split the moon in 2 halves and rejoined them, it was a miracle! u truely cant argue against these facts!

this is just couple of examples of the very many. the bible and the torah lack any logical theories and any facts!......you dont believe me, read on it...it wont take long!

ofcourse there is a God. how did we come to earth, what made animals...earth, gravity, the sun and the moon rotate in order, space, the stars, the soul, all of these things...there must be a super natural power behind them, beyond any human!

and that is him, God.

PROOFS AND EVIDENCES OF THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

One of the proofs and demonstrations of the existence of God is the fact that man did not create himself: nay, his creator and designer is another than himself.

It is certain and indisputable that the creator of man is not like man because a powerless creature cannot create another being. The maker, the creator, has to possess all perfections in order that he may create.

Can the creation be perfect and the creator imperfect? Can a picture be a masterpiece and the painter imperfect in his art? For it is his art and his creation. Moreover, the picture cannot be like the painter; otherwise, the painting would have created itself. However perfect the picture may be, in comparison with the painter it is in the utmost degree of imperfection.

The contingent world is the source of imperfections: God is the origin of perfections. The imperfections of the contingent world are in themselves a proof of the perfections of God.

For example, when you look at man, you see that he is weak. This very weakness of the creature is a proof of the power of the Eternal Almighty One, because, if there were no power, weakness could not be imagined. Then the weakness of the creature is a proof of the power of God; for if there were no power, there could be no weakness; so from this weakness it becomes evident that there is power in the world. Again, in the contingent world there is poverty; then necessarily wealth exists, since poverty is apparent in the world. In the contingent world there is ignorance; necessarily knowledge exists, because ignorance is found; for if there were no knowledge, neither would there be ignorance. Ignorance is the nonexistence of knowledge, and if there were no existence, nonexistence could not be realized.

It is certain that the whole contingent world is subjected to a law and rule which it can never disobey; even man is forced to submit to death, to sleep and to other conditions -- that is to say, man in certain particulars is governed, and necessarily this state of being governed implies the existence of a governor. Because a characteristic of contingent beings is dependency, and this dependency is an essential necessity, therefore, there must be an independent being whose independence is essential.

In the same way it is understood from the man who is sick that there must be one who is in health; for if there were no health, his sickness could not be proved.

Therefore, it becomes evident that there is an Eternal Almighty One, Who is the possessor of all perfections, because unless He possessed all perfections He would be like His creation.

Throughout the world of existence it is the same; the smallest created thing proves that there is a creator. For instance, this piece of bread proves that it has a maker.

Praise be to God! the least change produced in the form of the smallest thing proves the existence of a creator: then can this great universe, which is endless, be self-created and come into existence from the action of matter and the elements? How self-evidently wrong is such a supposition!

These obvious arguments are adduced for weak souls; but if the inner perception be open, a hundred thousand clear proofs become visible. Thus, when man feels the indwelling spirit, he is in no need of arguments for its existence; but for those who are deprived of the bounty of the spirit, it is necessary to establish external arguments.

The point of believing in God is the fact you have enough faith to know the time you will meet him is when you die. People have so little faith these days and only believe in things they can see. Imagine dying and meeting your creator and all this time you didnt believe in him what will you say then? Well i couldnt see you!. Look around you a man didnt build this world and things dont just appear. The holy book i believe in (qu'ran) is word of god not written by man but god went through a messenger, muhammed (peace beupon him) to tell the people and spread the message. The bible has been changed many times by man i agree with that.

Someone once explained the begining of the universe as...
1 There was nothing
2 Something happened
3 The universe existed

Science has not been able to explain how the universe came into existence. Ignoring the bible, torah, koran etc, some being or force caused life or the foundations or life to begin.
(Some argue that the universe has always existed but that arguement has more holes than my cars exhaust)

With the knowlege that SOMETHING caused life to begin, that you are here and life is good, why not believe in God?

Nobody had, has or will have seen God. All the Messengers of God teach that God is the Inaccessible, the Unknown, the Incomparable.
The believers of various world religions believe in the existence of the One True God, because they have sufficient proofs to believe that the Messengers of God are reflecting all the prefections of God. No human beings can be compared to Them.
It is really pitiful for people who think that they are greater than the Messengers of God.

Our senses are not powerful enough to see God - Just as we cannot see radio or TV waves. When we see a masterpiece work of art or literature, we appreciate its creator without even seeing him. This universe around you is a wonderful creation, evey part of your body is so well designed (say you eyes, ears), we appreciate its creator even without seeing him.

No one worships Bible, Torah or Quran. These are words of God and believers follow instructions in these holy books. For example, Pophet Mohamed was an illiterate merchant. But Quran is considered as literary master piece in Arabic. Prophet Mohamed did not gain anything but suffering by propagating Quran which was revealed to him from God. The same way Bible was revealed to Jesus and Torah to Moses.

god is true because the bible says so!!
the bible is true because it's the word of god!!

people believe in god because
1) they are ignorant of science (i.e. I don't understand how this happened, therefore god must have done it) - sometimes they also deliberately misrepresent science (as in the 'watchmaker' argument)
2) it gives them comfort (i.e. I am so miserable, that my life must mean something more than this)
3) culture (i.e. parents were JW's, I have been indoctrinated into the JW's and if I look to closely at my faith, I will lose friends and family)
4) the warm fuzzies (i.e. the mormon 'burning in the bosom - basically the psychological feeling that you get when you hear something warm&fuzzy being misrepresented as a 'testimony from the holy ghost/jesus/allah/whatever)

the final part of your question is moot. LotR has never been represented as anything other than fiction

There are accounts of people experiencing apparitions and miracles for you to examine with an open mind. Indeed some have before and after pictures i.e. people who were ill and inexplicably became cured. Try also examining the conditions which led to the cure i.e. a common feature across all cures of people praying to God for help, a feeling of great warmth, and then the cure. People tend to overlook these issues or try to explain them as natural but inside each of these cures lies a common trait that can only be traced to God.

I suppose there's never any proof, the bible was written by man not god and it's well known that writers of history change things to make aspects appear better. I don't believe in this changing water to wine stuff of any of these supposed "miracles of christ".

Only one way to find out that answer though, wait a few years till you die. Then you'll know.
