It's been around for a while and has had a lot of exposure around the world. There was a piece on Sky One's BRAINIAC about it quite recently which is probably why it's become more widely known. It works in other languages, as well. I've seen text in German that's been given the treatment and it works, even for me and my German is far from great.

Someone has even writen a line of PERL programming code to convert text automatically to that format but I haven't seen any site using it.

This link dates from September 2003 and has a form to email the 'story' to people. If you like it and want to spread the word a bit more you could use their service.

Yes

It works but much more slowly than usual. It's similar to the old speed writing that relied on the first and last letter and only some of the cconsonants inbetween to spell words. Mighty weird until you get used to it.

Yes it did work, but I'm dyslexic so I think I have an advantage as I don't actually try to read a word phonetically, mainly just visually recognise the word

Yes it does work, the studies were done at Cambridge University.

Yes - it will work, as long as the first and last letters of the word are correctly positioned.
