back then, there was not much genetic diversity. it started with adam and eve. they had three sons but it does not say how many daughters. the boys who did not get killed had to find a wife from somewhere. they married a sister, had kids their kids married and had kids.you get the picture? they had to have incest. there was no choice until a few hundred years after the flood. it was whith the just freed israelites that God stopped the incest. there was enough genetic diversity by then to support the current system. it became unlawfull to marry cousins. and it was unnessasary as well.

well first of all i think it was absolutely necessary for them at that time. as they had to have offsprings who would carry on the family. but today the situation is not like that. we are already too many. so there is no need.
also u should understand that initially there was a lot of land for agriculture,so it was possible for feeding many mouths. but since the advent of industrialization and imperialism, the land available for producing food is less and less.
also man may have attempted to create some varieties of plants, via biotech, but he is not completely sucessful. so i think we should be careful about the no:of mouths we have to feed.
and more over, we call ourselves a civilised and educated society, then how can anyone have the heart to do it with our family.?

Mpst states marriage is only banned between first cousins. Other more distant relationships are legal. Do not take the parble of genesis as a fact or as a guide to desirable present day behavior.

Actually the term "Adam" is not the name of a man. The name "Adam" actually translates more accuratly as "The race of red man in this regon"- in other words, it was a race of people. On the other hands, as its described it does come across as one man.
Would I do my cousin? No
Would I do my sister? No, and she's so darn good looking she teaches belly dancing while standing on wine glasses (Different fathers)

Well I guess you've got a point...so we're all related.
(Well, then again, there are peoples who, when asked where they came from, just point up; such as a "tribe" in Japan, and an "extinct" group of people who lived on Lake Titikaka who reportedly had white blood.)

actually even when people had incest in the old testament, if you read properly, in genesis itself, people suffered when they did that. it was definitely not justified.
the people married between themselves, yes, but sexual immorality was a sin from the beginning.
Lots daughters laid with him, and because of that, their decendents suffered.
Rueben laid with Jacob's wife (not his mom) and he received no blessing.
I agree, do not use the Bible to justify modern perversed act if you do not have enough knowledge of it.
Read the Bible and God will reveal His truth to you.
Corinthians 7:2
Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.
