I don't think they earn more or actually receive more money they just don't have as much to pay for , i was unemployed for a short time a few yrs ago and i worked out that to take a job that matched the benefits i was on i would have to go for either part time subsidised work or full time with plenty of over time ( robbing my family of a Dad / husband ) if you live in the UK and are on a low wage you can claim tax credits but this is mostly given to people with children , also if your job isn't paying a good wage try changing to a different line of work or putting yourself forward for promotion i am fortunate that i can work at almost every level in my industry but this is only due to me being very self motivated and a bit lucky ( right place at the right time sort of thing ) but if you look around you'll probably find something more suitable to your needs , have fun looking

Just be thankful that you are employed. I am sure there is some unemployed person out there who would be more than happy to have your job. If you are unhappy with your current job then you should either seek another job or go to school and obtain the necessary skills needed to get the type of work and pay that you desire. I understand that sometimes we may grow tired of our jobs but we should always remember to be thankful for what we have because there is always someone out there who is less fortunate. Peace and God bless.

haha. Yet again I agree. I have always work, so has my partner, we had kids young, still always worked and never ever claimed a benefit, yet i see people all the time with lots of money, a free house, everything paid for and all they gotta do is pop out kids and sit at home all frikkin day, when we struggle to make the mortgage payments and pay all the bills each month.
I will get off my soap box now as I am sure I am bound to off offended someone!
Its not the people that abuse the system, it's the government that allow people to abuse the system I suppose. Oh I dunno but I find very frustrating.

First of all, unemployment doesn't make a whole lot of money. It's not true they make less than minimum wage unless they grossed low enough in their previous job to make that much on unemployment. When I was on it, I maxed out with the state guideline and made about two dollars less on the hour.
Do you mean unemployment, or are you talking about people that don't work but earn money by other means such as:
drug dealing, prostitution, welfare, child support or etc?

Unemployed cannot earn anything. But many parttime work in sales etc are more rewarding than full time salaried work. With a little hardwork and skills, they earn commission, volume based incentives etc.The days of pen pushers are over. They get free vocation and other facilities. But there is no job security. The moment they fail to achieve minimum target ,they are finished.

Maybe because when they did work, they made good money and receive higher unemployement. In my state, maximum unemployment is about $500/week. Not a bad gig. Then again, those unemployed people may be receiving public assistance, which is also a nice gig as long as you keep popping out kids.

the social security system was put in place to help the poor and needy, but now is abused to such an extent that it has become a way of life for scum bags, slime balls, lazy bastards and is a massive attraction for immigrants. These people should be made to work for the country for their handouts! If you want to avoid becoming one of the above, keep up the good work. There are enough jobs to go round, there should be no unemployment and no need to import foreigners to do our jobs.

Unemployment is based on how long you worked at a previous job and for how much. I was working 2 jobs at one time, 16 hours a day. I quit one and then month and a half later the other job "got rid" of my department, I went to the unemployment office and they base your unemployment on your previous 6 - 12 months of work, so I was making more on unemployment then at my job I worked for the last month and a half. Best. Summer. Ever.

I understand your frustration. My husband is drawing unemployment because he walked into work one day and they let six people go. He was one. He is trying so hard to find another job but not having much luck. In Georgia, your benefit amount is determined by how long you have worked during the year and how much you were making at the time you lost your job.
